Volkswagen Group collaborates with AWS to help transform production for the age of AI

Volkswagen Group advances production digitalization The Digital Production Platform (DPP) – Volkswagen’s “factory cloud” – enables widespread use of artificial intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge IT systems across all sites 43 factories worldwide already connected Next step: Preparing for software-defined vehicles Collaboration with AWS extended for another five years Wolfsburg, 28. August 2025 – More efficient, smarter, more resilient: Volkswagen Group is gearing up its vehicle production for an AI-powered future. Volkswagen and Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) are extending their collaboration on the Digital Production Platform (DPP) – Volkswagen’s “factory cloud” designed to support automotive manufacturing – for another five years. Volkswagen uses the DPP to deploy AI and cutting-edge IT systems across its global production sites. This makes production more flexible and faster, reduces IT costs, and helps bring new models to market more quickly. Originally launched as an industrial partner network, Volkswagen and AWS have developed the DPP into a key digital link helping connect order intake, logistics, and manufacturing – helping ensure seamless data flows throughout the entire process chain. This is a fundamental prerequisite for the widespread use of AI, a core strategic objective of the company. In addition, the DPP helps enable Volkswagen to roll out new IT systems as standardized solutions across its factories. Across the Volkswagen Group, 43 sites in Europe, North and South America are already connected to the DPP. In total, the Volkswagen Group operates 114 production facilities worldwide. “Our ambition is to become the global automotive tech driver. To achieve this, we are consistently digitalizing and connecting all areas of our company. Our goal is to bring products and technologies to our customers even faster. The Digital Production Platform plays a key role in this: it is the digital nervous system of our factories – and the key to a future of AI-powered production,” said Hauke Stars, Member of the Board of Management for IT at the Volkswagen Group. More Efficient and Cost-Effective: Volkswagen can roll out new key IT systems for production and logistics uniformly across all factories connected to the DPP. One example, called “Guided Vehicle Completion”, is a digital solution that helps optimize the coordination of complex processes in vehicle assembly, and is already in use at 13 plants across Volkswagen, Audi, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The high availability and scalability of AWS help enable Volkswagen to host these production- critical systems in the cloud and help reduce risk of production line stoppages. Thanks to more standardized systems across sites, the Volkswagen Group is already seeing medium-term savings in the double-digit million range. At the same time, these central standards help create a unified, cross-functional data foundation – enabling an even more consistent use of technologies like AI. For example, with ‘KI4UPS’, Volkswagen leverages AI to assist assembly line teams in software deployment for vehicles, more swiftly pinpointing potential electronic issues. This helps lead to a substantial reduction in Volkswagen’s manual workload. The Volkswagen Group now uses more than 1,200 AI applications – far beyond the realm of production. Through innovative AWS services like Amazon SageMaker, Volkswagen trains AI models and builds industrial computer vision use cases that improve quality control systems and drive cost savings. These AI applications include sustainability efforts: at the Poznań, Poland, plant, for example, AI is used to help optimize electricity consumption. As a result, energy costs have been reduced by 12 percent, along with a decrease in CO₂ emissions. Smarter: With its DPP, Volkswagen lays the groundwork for data-based improvements in manufacturing efficiency. This includes, for example, predictive maintenance and remote monitoring of quality assurance processes. At German sites such as Wolfsburg and Ingolstadt, AI systems perform real-time image analysis during production, helping ensure that every component is accurately fitted to match each vehicle’s configuration. This helps enable faster detection and immediate correction of potential production errors. More Resilient: Thanks to the continuous availability of data throughout the entire manufacturing process, decisions can be made more quickly, allowing production to be adjusted more flexibly – especially in response to short-term disruptions in the supply chain. Cybersecurity and the digital resilience of systems also benefit from centralized standards and a unified data foundation provided by the DPP. “Our high-performance vehicle production is a key driver of success for the Volkswagen Group and its brands,” said Christian Vollmer, Member of the Brand Board of Management of Volkswagen for Production and Logistics and Member of the Extended Group Executive Committee. “By more closely integrating development and manufacturing through a shared, AI-capable data structure, we are creating the conditions to bring our vehicles to customers even faster.” Next Step: Preparing for Software-Defined VehiclesWith the ongoing development of the DPP, Volkswagen is placing greater emphasis on software- defined vehicles (SDVs) – next-generation models where most functionalities are managed and updated through software. The DPP will play a key role in helping enable software deployment directly during the manufacturing process. This capability will be shaped by the Volkswagen Group’s joint venture with Rivian Automotive, which is developing the next-generation of electronics architecture and vehicle software. Already developed AI solutions such as KI4UPS and their data models can be flexibly adapted to the future electronics architecture. This enables Volkswagen to utilize the joint venture’s rapid development cycles, even within its production environment. “Volkswagen Group is setting new standards for smart manufacturing,” said Kathrin Renz, Vice President of AWS Industries. “Our five-year extended collaboration combines AWS’s cloud infrastructure and purpose-built IoT and machine learning services with Volkswagen’s manufacturing expertise. Together, we’re fast-tracking AI solutions that will help unlock new levels of innovation throughout Volkswagen Group’s manufacturing operations.” In the medium to long term, the DPP is intended to represent large parts of Volkswagen’s production system. At the same time, it serves as the foundation for forward-looking developments in the industrial context and is compatible with industry-wide standards such as Catena-X. Mazda’s unceasing commitment to refining the vehicle over its 35-year history is highlighted by today’s MX-5, which continues to be an affordable, engaging, world-class sports car. It’s also worth noting that when the MX-5 launched in the UK in 1990 it cost £14,429 – that’s more than £35,000 when adjusted for inflation, so with today’s MX-5 starting at under £30,000 – it’s better value than ever.” A further example of the MX-5s appeal to enthusiasts is that since its launch in the UK in 1990 there have been an amazing 56 special edition models sold here – adding to the wide choice of MX-5s in the used marketplace. Add in a huge awards cabinet of accolades from media around the globe, passionate owner’s clubs in hundreds of regions and smile-inducing use in grassroots motorsport in multiple countries and it’s easy to see how the MX-5 is not just the world’s best-selling convertible it can also claim to be added to the list of the world’s most loved sports cars. ^based on Jato sales data in 77 countries of convertible and targa vehicles*production figures up to May 2025

Art in motion: BMW Art Cars at the 2025 Goodwood Revival

Five BMW Art Cars will be on display at the Goodwood Revival as part of the world tour celebrating the collection’s 50th anniversary. Exhibition to include the 1995 David Hockney BMW 850 CSi. Goodwood Revival takes place Friday 12 – Sunday 14 September. Limited tickets available at goodwood.com. The 2025 Goodwood Revival will showcase five BMW Art Cars as part of the event’s Earls Court exhibition. For the past 50 years, the BMW Art Car collection has continued to evolve and features designs by some of the world’s most renowned artists, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, and David Hockney. The bold and abstract cars were first conceived by French racing driver Hervé Poulain, combining his passion for racing and appreciation for contemporary cars. The collection now comprises 20 unique vehicles. To celebrate the collection’s 50th anniversary, BMW is showcasing a number of the cars as part of a world tour, and the following five cars will be making a stop at the Goodwood Revival: 1976 Frank Stella BMW 3.0 CSL Known for its participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the original BMW 3.0 CSL was reimagined by artist Frank Stella. As the second vehicle in the BMW Art Cars collection, Stella’s design was inspired by the technical basis of the car itself. The result was a striking composition of black and white lines, with the powerful 750 hp engine front and centre of the design. 1977 Roy Lichtenstein BMW 320i TurboJust one year later, pop artist Roy Lichenstein brought his signature style to life by incorporating his recognisable “Ben Day dots” into the design of the BMW 320i Turbo. The original vehicle, which also competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, was driven by the founder of the art car collection Hervé Poulain and Marcel Mignot. 1982 Ernst Fuchs BMW 635 CSiNumber five in the collection, the BMW 635 CSi was designed by Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs in 1982. Otherwise known as the “Fire Fox on a Hare Hunt”, Fuchs’ design was the first in the collection to be based on a production car, and varied from his earlier pieces of artwork. 1995 David Hockney BMW 850 CSiDavid Hockney designed the 14th car in the collection: the BMW 850 CSi. The result of an extended design project, Hockney aimed to reveal the car’s inner workings and spirit through his art. His detailed paintwork includes the outline of a driver on the door, while attentive viewers will note a stylised suction vent on the button – subtle touches which invite you to look closer at the design. 2010 Jeff Koons BMW M3 GT2American artist Jeff Koons brought a dynamic palette of vibrant, contrasting colours to his BMW M3 GT2. The 17th BMW Art Car saw the return of Pop Art and the creation of a design which captures the essence of power and motion – conveying a sense of speed and energy even when the car is stationary. The unique collection of cars will be on display across the Goodwood Revival weekend in Earls Court, as part of the collection’s ongoing world tour. Saturday tickets for the Goodwood Revival are now sold out, with limited Friday and Sunday tickets remaining at goodwood.com ***About the Goodwood RevivalThe Goodwood Revival is the world’s greatest historic motor race meeting, and the only sporting event of its kind to be staged entirely in a period theme. 1959 specification Austin Minis to race at Goodwood Revival

First time the classic Mini will be allowed to compete in the 1950s version of the famous St. Mary’s Trophy race Austin Cars Ltd to debut two re-imagined 1959 classic Minis at Goodwood Revival Drivers will include endurance racing champion Darren Turner, and former F1 driver Karun Chandhok Each car has been meticulously crafted to 1959 specification with the help of specialists including Swiftune Engineering and Owens Fabrication Website at www.austincars.co.uk Salisbury, England: 28th August 2025When the words ‘Goodwood’ and ‘Mini’ are uttered in the same sentence it can surely mean only one thing; the St. Mary’s Trophy historic touring car races at Goodwood Revival. A brace of 1960s Cooper S racers nipping angrily at the heels of the giant V8 muscle from across the pond. Only this year it will be different, very different. For 2025 the St. Marys Trophy reverts to its biennial pre-1960 touring car grid, where the humble Mini hasn’t been allowed due to its predominantly 1960s period competition success – until now. Having made the decision to include Minis in the race, Goodwood turned to a trio of trusted faces in the historic racing community to produce the right car for the occasion. Austin Cars Ltd is a recently formed company which has chosen the classic Mini as the showpiece for its engineering and competition thinking and which will field two classic Minis on the illustrious pre-1960 Goodwood grid. The team behind Austin Cars Ltd will be familiar to anyone in historic motoring. They are the same management team as Burlen Ltd, the company behind SU, Amal and Zenith Carburettors and Austin Pedal Cars. “It’s not really a new idea,” says Mark Burnett, Managing Director of Austin Cars Ltd. “Over at Burlen we’ve been producing a small range of classic car parts under the Austin name for years and in 2020 we set up Austin Pedal Cars, which is such a lovely natural path into the world of historic motoring for young people. The next step was always going to be the production of something for the grown-ups, something basic but fun, soul-stirring and memory inducing, no frills motoring, simply because we can. The Austin Cars cup of tea has been brewing for quite a while!” Owens Fabrication in Wales were asked to produce the bodyshells and roll cages, paying meticulous attention to the detail of the 1959 model. They were then tasked with assembly of the cars to race specification, but without losing the production car feel. Swiftune Engineering were chosen to build, test and supply the full race specification engines for the plucky racers. “‘Swiftune and Owens are not only long-term friends of Austin Cars but they also happen to produce the fastest, most reliable classic Mini race cars and A-Series race engines in the world,” says Burnett. “There was no other option in our quest for perfection. We also went the extra mile with many uniquely designed and engineered touches, produced in-house at Austin.” The cars have been built to accurately reflect the early production Minis from 1959. Subtle differences have been made to the bodyshell and trim, steels wheels have been added, and the ride height has been raised to replicate the body roll of the earliest racing Minis. Both race cars will feature less powerful versions of the famous A-Series engine than their later production cousins, fed by a single SU carburettor, and with the ‘wand’ gear lever of the original 850cc Mini. Presented in Farina Grey, an original 1959 Austin colour, the two team cars will line up on the St. Marys Trophy grid for the first time ever at the 2025 Goodwood Revival. “Minis are such a popular sight at Goodwood, and I am very excited to see them racing in the 1950s version of the St Mary’s Trophy,” says Will Kinsman, Goodwood’s Editorial and Content Director. “Our brief to Austin, Swiftune and Owens was to produce cars that look like “your Mum’s Mini, which you’ve borrowed for the day, painted a number on the side, and taken racing without telling her!”, and they have achieved it brilliantly. The attention to detail that has gone into creating cars that are distinctly different from the Cooper S-spec cars that we normally see racing is a credit to all concerned.” No strangers to classic Mini racing, the cars will be driven in the famous race by Mark Burnett himself, as well as Nick Swift of Swiftune, but they will also be joined by some big names from the racing world. Co-drivers are required because the race is made up of two parts, on both the Saturday and Sunday of the weekend. Performing this privilege will be Karun Chandhok, former F1 driver and Darren Turner, endurance racing champion. The race results are then formed by the aggregate result of the drivers’ finishing times, with the nail-biting finale rounding off the weekend’s racing on Sunday evening. “It’s a real pleasure to present our 1959 Austin Minis to the spectators and the world at Goodwood, and such a privilege to be asked to join the grid for the first time ever,” says Burnett. “What a way to showcase Austin Cars and who knows, perhaps their debut provides a hint of our plans for the future.”

A few days ago, the CONCEPT AMG GT XX captured global attention when it covered 40,075 kilometers on the legendary Nardò test track in less than eight days – setting a total of 25 long-distance records with an impressive margin during this journey “around the world in eight days”. Under extreme test conditions, the technology pioneer demonstrated its superior endurance, continuing Mercedes‑AMG’s long tradition of record-breaking achievements. The performance brand from Affalterbach pushed the limits with two vehicles sprinting lap after lap, breaking record after record, at a running speed of 300 km/h – for 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and 07 seconds. Among the records is the one for the longest distance ever covered by an electric vehicle in 24 hours. But in this extreme endurance test, the previous benchmark wasn’t just broken once – it was shattered fourteen times: Mercedes-AMG fielded two CONCEPT AMG GT XX in the Nardò challenge. Both vehicles exceeded the previous record in every single 24-hour window by an overwhelming margin. This ultimate stress test was only possible thanks to the unmatched endurance capability of its revolutionary drivetrain. The CONCEPT AMG GT XX is powered by three axial flux motors and a direct-cooled battery – technologies that will enter production next year in the upcoming high-performance architecture AMG.EA. A host of additional, partially production-ready innovations also played a key role in this extreme test. Among them: an integrated cooling concept, sophisticated aerodynamics, and an intelligent operating strategy. Moreover, the CONCEPT AMG GT XX also introduces a range of innovations in both its exterior and interior. Highlights include an augmented reality racing helmet, ergonomic 3D seat pads, and novel biotechnology-based materials. Exterior standouts feature illuminated paint segments along the sides, headlight-integrated speakers, and the MBUX Fluid Light Panel at the rear. “Mercedes‑AMG and Formula 1® stand for innovation, intense competition, and pushing the boundaries of what is technically possible. Our powertrains have been delivering groundbreaking success since the very first road races in automotive history more than 120 years ago, setting benchmarks for decades. In the 1970s and 1980s, Mercedes‑Benz was a regular guest here at Nardò, setting numerous international speed and track records – most notably with the C111 as a visionary technology program. Back then, we demonstrated the performance capabilities of innovative diesel and petrol powertrains. Now, with the CONCEPT AMG GT XX technology programme, we are entering a new dimension of performance – this time with fully electric drive. The goal is to redefine the limits of what is technically possible in the age of electric drives. So what could be more fitting than to go chasing records once again? Our mission: to redefine the very standards of performance with groundbreaking technologies and innovations. The motivation and dedication of the cross-functional team from Mercedes‑AMG, Mercedes‑Benz, Mercedes‑Benz Mobility, and our F1 engine experts at Mercedes‑AMG High Performance Powertrains throughout the entire preparation phase were boundless. That’s why many of the technologies from the CONCEPT AMG GT XX will soon make their way into our production vehicles. At the heart of this is, of course, the revolutionary drive concept featuring axial-flux motors and a directly cooled battery, both of which will be available as early as next year. In addition, we are leveraging the data gathered in Nardò to further refine our upcoming high-performance architecture, AMG.EA. Our customers will benefit from an entirely new dimension of sustained electric power.”Michale Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH and Head of Business Units Mercedes‑Benz G‑Class and Mercedes‑Maybach Innovative cooling with Central Coolant Hub (CCH) and passive cooling plate in the underbodyPowerful cooling is essential to delivering the sustained power of the CONCEPT AMG GT XX. At its core is the innovative direct liquid cooling of the high-performance battery. However, the demand-based cooling of the Electric Drive Units (EDUs) on the front and rear axles and the OneBox – which integrates the power electronics for the 12-volt onboard system and the onboard charger – were also crucial. Different systems require different temperature ranges. For example, the EDUs operate in a different temperature range than the battery. The Central Coolant Hub (CCH) precisely supplies all components. This highly integrated component is the “mastermind” of the cooling system in the CONCEPT AMG GT XX. It is located compactly between the front EDU and the left front longitudinal member of the chassis. In the CONCEPT AMG GT XX, the Central Coolant Hub combines numerous sub-components in a single compact housing: High-performance cooling pumps Temperature sensors 4-way/5-way valves Its integrated design requires fewer hoses, brackets, clamps, and pumps than conventional solutions – saving both weight and installation space. The CCH not only connects all components requiring cooling but also links to the main radiator and the two wheel-arch radiators (one on each front side). Newly developed valves allow partial cooling circuits to be switched on or off as needed. The Central Cooling Hub is designed for different scenarios. It can, for instance, deliver maximum cooling to all components during high-load driving and at elevated ambient temperatures, as was regularly required during the demanding endurance test in Nardò. However, targeted and efficient cooling of individual components is also possible. The major advantage of this cooling system lies in its ability, in combination with the axial-flux motors and directly cooled battery, to deliver full performance in virtually any situation – whether driving or…

The new T-Roc adopts numerous features from the larger Tiguan and Tayron models, such as the latest evolutionary stage of the driving experience control, which can be used to select driving profiles and control the volume, among other things. A new feature in the T-Roc and in its class is also the optional windscreen head-up display, which projects important information such as speed or navigation pictograms directly on to the windscreen in front of the driver. More space for up to five people. The space in the new T-Roc is suitable for long journeys and families. Even if people taller than 1.85 metres are seated in the front, passengers of a similar stature can sit comfortably in the rear thanks to the extra 12 cm added to the length of the new T-Roc. In addition, an electrically adjustable 14-way ergoActive seat with massage function will be available in the Style version for the first time in the T-Roc. The boot volume increases by 30 litres to 475 litres when loaded up to the height of the rear seat backrests. Technology transfer thanks to MQB evo. Following the current Tiguan (debut in 2024) and Tayron (debut in 2025), the new T-Roc is the third SUV from Volkswagen to be based on the latest evolutionary stage of the modular transverse matrix, the MQB evo – and thus benefits from the hardware and software developments in this modular assembly matrix. These include a new development stage of Travel Assist3. It not only supports automatic lane changes, but can also react with even more foresight to speed limits or the lifting of speed limits3. For the first time, the new T-Roc also has systems such as Park Assist Pro1 on board. This system uses the memory function to ensure trained and thus fully automatic parking over distances of up to 50 metres and enables a smartphone to be used to drive the vehicle into and out of parking spaces3. The exit warning system is also available as an option and can warn occupants before the doors are opened3 that cars or bicycles are approaching from behind. Mild hybrid as standard. The new T-Roc will be available exclusively with innovative hybrid turbocharged petrol engines on the European market. For the launch, there are two 48V mild hybrid drives (1.5 eTSI) with 85 kW (116 PS)2 and 110 kW (150 PS)2. They will be followed by two full hybrid drive systems that have been developed entirely from scratch. These always have front-wheel drive. A T-Roc R will also be available in the future as the most powerful variant. All 1.5 and 2.0 mild hybrids feature a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. New range of versions. The equipment matrix for the new T-Roc will now be more clearly structured and customer-focused. In order to make configuration as simple as possible, Volkswagen has combined standard and optional individual features and packages with the equipment versions. The packages are precisely tailored to customer preferences, resulting in a streamlined range of standard and optional equipment at attractive prices. The range in some markets consists of the basic T-Roc version (focus on budget and functionality), the first expansion package Life (focus on functionality and comfort) as well as the two top-of-the-line versions Style (focus on design and technology) and R-Line (focus on sportiness). Six paint finishes are available in Germany for the new T-Roc: Pure white solid, Wolf grey metallic and Grenadilla black metallic as well as the new paint colours Canary yellow solid, Flamed red metallic and Celestial blue metallic. The roof is also available in the bi-colour black solid colour. In addition, all versions of the T-Roc can be ordered with a towing bracket whose drawbar load (80 kg) is designed for transporting heavy e-bikes. Prices and specification for the new T-Roc in the UK will be confirmed soon. A car from Europe for Europe. The…

Inspired by Le Mans Hypercar racers such as the Porsche GT1, the production GTH draws on all of RML’s 40 years of championship-winning motorsport performance, bespoke engineering and industry leading innovation. Fulfilling its promise to be the Ultimate GT, the GTH – developed under the internal RML P39 codename – delivers an uncompromising fusion of all-round performance, bespoke refinement and usability. Thanks to sophisticated driver-selected active aero and damping systems GTH is capable of lap-record pace on track but also offers a fully compliant ride on the road. The GTH making its debut at Salon Privé is doubly special – it is not only the first of 39 production models, but also one of just 10 RML 40th Anniversary Special Edition (SE) variants. This SE specification includes exclusive bespoke interior detailing and upgrades plus both the Performance Pack and highest-level Track Pack. These upgrades bring selectable ride height adjustment, rear roll cage, and rear-seat delete. Power is boosted to 920hp and torque to more than 1000Nm thanks to an exhaustive and exacting tuning created in partnership with Litchfield Motors. Demonstrating the near-limitless level of customer options, the first GTH is finished outside in Storm Purple with the roof and bonnet in tinted visual carbon. The larger, centre-lock wheels are finished in Gold while the brake calipers are in Gunmetal. Badging is in hand-painted Gold. Inside, the retrimmed standard seats and interior leather have Crayon-coloured stitching. The seatbelts are also now Crayon to match. Elsewhere, the inlays are in body-coloured visual carbon fibre, and the roll cage is finished in Storm Purple. Speaking at the unveiling, Michael Mallock, Board Member responsible for the Bespoke Division, said: “This is a proud day in RML history. I could not be more thrilled with how the GT Hypercar has turned out. It was an ambitious project but it has beaten even my exacting expectations on road and track. I congratulate and thank the whole RML team for making my and our customer’s dream cars come true.’ RML Group CEO, Paul Dickinson, adds: “GT Hypercar demonstrates the very best of RML Group. Our ability to produce extraordinary world-beating products and solutions in record time and within budget is unmatched, as we’ve proven again here. Congratulations to our team and the first owner.” The P39 codename used for the GTH prototype is not a random number. It indicates that this is the 39th project car produced by RML Group since its inception. While many of the RML P Cars remain confidential, the work being conducted in secret for manufacturers, there are several other notable cars which can be revealed. One of these is the Nürburgring Nordschleife record-setting NIO EP9 prototype EV supercar, which is also on display at Salon Privé. One of 16 prototypes produced for the company under project P31, the EP9 showcases RML Group’s world-beating VarEVolt battery technology. Founded in 1984 by racing driver and engineer Ray Mallock, RML Group has delivered championship‑winning touring cars, GT racers, bespoke supercars and advanced battery technology programmes. Today, the company operates from a purpose‑built facility in Wellingborough, providing design, development and limited‑series manufacturing services to OEMs and high‑net‑worth clients under the guiding principle of Engineering Excellence.

In 2023, it launched the Electric MOKE and became the first heritage automotive brand to go 100% electric. The latest MOKE vehicles are meticulously engineered and lovingly handcrafted in Northamptonshire, England, just miles away from where the original MOKE cars were built in the 1960s. MOKE is for a worldwide audience, that has time to take it slow and enjoy life’s journey. It continues to be treasured for its unique styling and the feelings of freedom it evokes.
