From five continents to one winner – WWCOTY jury celebrates Hyundai in Seoul

Images are for editorial use only. An important delegation from Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year traveled to South Korea to present the Supreme Winner award to the Hyundai Santa Fe and explore the gigantic Ulsan plant, where 5,600 cars are manufactured daily SEOUL, South Korea – Three jurors of the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) award traveled thousands of miles from around the world (Italy, United Arab Emirates and the United States) to Seoul, South Korea to present the Supreme Winner trophy to Hyundai Motor Company executives, conduct interviews and tour the world’s largest automotive manufacturing facility. The three jurors are Monica Secondino, founder of Donne in Auto and a feature writer for Il Fatto Quotidiano, Auto and Motor 1 Italia, based in Milan, Italy; Shereen Shabnam, editor-in-chief of Global Trend Monitor magazine based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Tanya Gazdik, automotive editor at MediaPost and a contributor to WardsAuto and A Girl’s Guide to Cars, based in Detroit, Michigan, United States. They represented the 85 women motoring journalists from 54 countries across five continents who voted for this year’s winners. The Hyundai Santa Fe was chosen as the WWCOTY Supreme Winner after first being selected as Best Large SUV. The trio conducted interviews with Hae In Kim, executive vice president and chief human resources officer at Hyundai Motor Company and presented her with the award. Next, they traveled to Hyundai Motorstudio Hanam, a brand experience space for Hyundai Motor Company located within Starfield Hanam mall in South Korea, where they interviewed Taewook Choi, senior researcher, Hyundai exterior design team. The WWCOTY jurors’ trip to South Korea also included a side trip from Seoul to the port city of Ulsan, where they toured Hyundai’s massive manufacturing complex. It is renowned as the world’s largest automobile plant. The facility encompasses five factories, an engine and transmission plant and even its own port for shipping vehicles. The plant covers 4.8 million square meters (1,200 acres) and can produce over 1.5 million vehicles annually, with a daily output of 5,600 cars. The WWCOTY jurors also toured the Hyundai Heritage Hall, a space dedicated to showcasing the company’s history and brand heritage. It is located within the Ulsan Plant’s Culture Center. The hall features an exhibition that traces Hyundai’s journey from its beginnings at the Ulsan Plant to its current position as one of the largest automotive companies globally. About Women’s Worldwide Car of the YearWomen’s Worldwide Car of the Year is the only car awards group in the world comprised exclusively of women motoring journalists. It was created by New Zealand motoring journalist Sandy Myhre in 2009. She is Honorary President while Marta García is Executive President. This unique award aims to recognise the best cars of the year and to give a voice to women in the automotive world. The voting criteria are based on the same principles that guide any driver when choosing a car. The jurors do not select a ‘woman’s car’ because cars are not gender specific. Aspects such as safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits and environmental footprint, among others, are considered when casting the votes. However, beyond choosing the best cars of the year, our goal is also to give visibility to women in the automotive world and to contribute to making women’s voices heard on all continents because mobility for a woman means access to many personal and professional possibilities. wwcoty.netinfo@wwcoty.net Supported by

How ready are we for self-driving cars? 41% of drivers fail to recognise basic cruise control warning lights

Images are for editorial use only. Research from Warrantywise reveals that nearly half of UK drivers don’t understand basic cruise control-related warning lights The survey, conducted in partnership with OnePoll, found that 41 per cent of UK drivers admit they don’t recognise or understand a single cruise-control related warning light Worryingly, only 28 per cent of drivers could safely identify the car distance indicator, and only 33 per cent could identify the cruise control warning signal As cars become more intelligent and technology-led, the findings suggest drivers may be left behind, with real consequences for safety and repair costs Warrantywise provides extended warranties for used cars, protecting drivers from unexpected repair bills and offering peace of mind no matter what lights up on the dash For more information, visit the website: www.warrantywise.co.uk Blackburn, 31 July 2025A new survey conducted by Warrantywise, the UK’s leading provider of extended car warranties, has found that nearly half of UK drivers don’t understand basic cruise control warning lights – a discovery that raises serious concerns about the real-world impact of increasingly complex car technology and self-driving ADAS systems. From alerts for lane assist to adaptive cruise control, the symbols now found on many vehicles’ dashboards appear to be causing more confusion than confidence, with four in ten drivers (41 per cent) admitting they don’t recognise or understand a single warning light from a suite of basic cruise control-related warnings. In a world where cars can steer, brake and park themselves, many drivers are left struggling with what should be the most basic line of communication from their car: the dashboard. When that confusion leads to hesitation or inaction, it can have real consequences – not just for road safety, but also for repair costs. Lane assist indicator 41 per cent Cruise control warning 33 per cent Car distance indicator 28 per cent None of the above 41 per cent Antony Diggins, Managing Director at Warrantywise, said: “Modern vehicles are more connected and capable than ever – but that complexity isn’t always matched by driver knowledge or confidence. Dashboard alerts are designed to keep us safe, but they’re only effective if drivers know what they mean – and act on them. Technology is a brilliant thing when it works, but even something as simple as not recognising a warning light can cause drivers to delay action. Vehicles may be getting smarter, but we believe peace of mind should still be simple. Our mission at Warrantywise is to give drivers confidence – not just in their cars, but in knowing they have the right support when something unexpected goes wrong.” The findings reflect a broader concern across the industry about so-called ‘tech overload’ – where increasingly complex digital systems create barriers rather than benefits. One study found that 61 per cent of drivers don’t regularly use their vehicles’ advanced features, and nearly a quarter have turned off driver assist functions entirely, citing confusion or distraction as the main reason1. Under the bonnet – and behind the screen – modern cars are now more advanced than ever. Many new vehicles contain upwards of 100 million lines of software code – more than a commercial airliner or even a modern fighter jet2. That level of complexity can make even small issues difficult (and expensive) to diagnose, especially when drivers aren’t confident in what their cars are trying to tell them. The risk is that if drivers don’t recognise a warning light, they may wait too long to take action, potentially turning a minor issue into a major fault. As vehicles continue to integrate more electronic systems, being able to identify when something isn’t right has never been more important. For those unsure what their dashboard is telling them, the advice is simple: don’t ignore it. Recognising your car’s warning signs can help prevent driver-caused damage, reduce the risk of long-term damage, and avoid stress when the unexpected happens. With a commitment to clear communication, fair pricing and a customer-first mindset, Warrantywise continues to support drivers across the UK as technology behind the wheel evolves. This latest recognition highlights the Group’s robust performance worldwide, built on investment in technology, new energy vehicles (NEV) and an expanding international presence. In the first half of 2025, Chery Group delivered 1.26 million vehicles worldwide – an increase of 14.5% compared with the same period last year. Of these, 550,000 were exported, meaning that on average, a Chery-built vehicle was sold overseas every 29 seconds. Strong growth in NEV has been a major contributor to this performance: in just 6 months, sales of hybrid and electric models reached 360,000 units, almost doubling year-on-year. These results underline Chery Group’s global strength, combining export experience with rapid progress in electrified and efficient powertrains. The Group’s youngest brand, OMODA&JAECOO, has become one of its biggest success stories. Since launch just over 2 years ago, it has achieved more than 570,000 sales across 44 countries – making it the fastest emerging automotive brand to reach the half-million mark. With hybrid and electric models now accounting for more than half of its sales, OMODA&JAECOO’s contribution to the Group has grown rapidly, rising from 21% of total export volume in 2023 to 37% in 2025, marking a 76% growth. As part of its international expansion, July also marks the introduction of the CHERY brand to the UK. The new CHERY TIGGO 7 and CHERY TIGGO 8 will join the line-up from September, broadening the Group’s portfolio in the market and introducing UK-based drivers to a new choice in practical, technology-rich SUVs. Earlier in July, the CHERY TIGGO 8 Super Hybrid made its UK public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it appeared in the First Glance paddock ahead of first deliveries later this summer. Gary Lan, CEO of CHERY UK, said: “Our rise in the Fortune Global 500 reflects the strength of Chery Group’s global strategy. With strong results across established markets, the rapid growth of OMODA&JAECOO, and the launch of new brands and technologies, we are committed to driving forward the next phase of international expansion. Investment in innovation, new energy solutions and global partnerships remains at the heart of our future plans, and with new markets such as the UK now part of our network, our international growth continues to accelerate.” Chery Group’s rapid growth demonstrates a long-term commitment to innovation, electrification and international markets. From consistently achieving a place on the Fortune Global 500 list, to maintaining a leading position in overseas sales and delivering rapid growth in the NEV sector, the Group continues to set new benchmarks for high-quality development and to strengthen the global competitiveness of Chinese automotive brands. -ENDS- About Chery International and CHERY TIGGOCHERY TIGGO is a CHERY model line synonymous with practicality, intelligence and global progress – a family of vehicles shaped by innovation and designed for the real world. Now ranked 233rd, this global recognition comes just over 2 years since the launch of OMODA&JAECOO – the Group’s youngest brand – and coincides with the brand house’s first year in the UK market. From bold crossovers and SUVs created to fit into everyday life with flair, flourish and fabulous features, OMODA&JAECOO has quickly established a presence on the roads. Known for distinctive design, technology-driven features and a fresh approach to the crossover and SUV segments, the brand has achieved a record-breaking sales performance that makes it the fastest emerging brand to surpass the half-million mark (570,000) in little over two years3. In that short time, OMODA&JAECOO has expanded to 44 markets and established itself as one of the fastest-growing names in the automotive world. With a focus on design, advanced technology and new energy solutions, the brand continues to attract a new generation of drivers looking for style, innovation and capability in equal measure. The momentum shows no sign of slowing. Interest in the design-led OMODA range and the tougher, more countryside-focused JAECOO line-up continues to grow, with more models and new retail locations set to launch in the coming months. This model has consistently achieved more than 10,000 units in monthly global sales and has already made an impact in the UK since its January launch, with 22,0002 vehicles now on UK roads. We’re only just getting started.” Globally, OMODA&JAECOO now represents 37% of Chery Group’s total exports – up from 21% in 20234 – highlighting the strong global appeal of the product line-up and the Group’s continued investment in innovation, new energy, and advanced safety technologies. Mazda to highlight heritage fleet at Royal Tunbridge Wells Festival of Motoring

Images are for editorial use only. Mazda UK’s 1969 Mazda Cosmo will be on display at the Royal Tunbridge Wells Festival of Motoring. The event celebrates 130 years since the UK’s first ever motor show was held in the Kent town. A curated selection of classic cars will be displayed across the weekend of 2nd and 3rd August. It is a little-known fact that the Kent town of Royal Tunbridge Wells hosted the first motor show in Great Britain. In 1895 the Royal Tunbridge Wells Horseless Carriage Exhibition attracted huge crowds, and this motoring milestone will be celebrated on the weekend of Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August when more than 20 curated classic cars will be displayed along the tree-lined Georgian walkways of The Pantiles at the heart of the picturesque town. This unique motoring festival will feature an eclectic display, exhibited by local world-renowned specialists, restorers and racing teams, in a celebration of the area and 130 years of motoring history. Mazda’s history in the town is focused on the fact, that prior to the founding of Mazda UK in 2001, Mazda’s importer was based in town from the early 1970s until the end of the century, while today Mazda UK’s heritage fleet is still stored and maintained in the Kent town. Local dealer Hendy Group opened a new dealership earlier this year, located on the Kingstanding Business Park, it’s the latest evolution of Mazda’s retail presence in Tunbridge Wells. Thanks to this local connection, Mazda UK’s 1969 Mazda Cosmo will be displayed across the weekend at this significant motoring showcase that is presented in association with Octane Magazine. – Ends – Further press information is available at www.mazda-press.co.ukInteractive Press Packs for all models are available at www.mazdamediapacks.co.ukVisit our media blog at www.insidemazda.co.ukFollow us on Twitter @mazdaukpr For further information please contact one of the following:Graeme Fudge, PR Director | T: 01322 622 691 | E-mail: gfudge@mazdaeur.comOwen Mildenhall, PR Manager | T: 01322 622 713 | Email: omildenhall@mazdaeur.comMonique Clarke, Press Officer | T: 01322 622 650 | Email: mclarke@mazdaeur.comEve Griffiths, PR Intern | T: 01322 622 718 | Email: egriffiths@mazdaeur.com Ref: 250725FINAL Editor’s NoteDetails of this free-to-attend event on the motoring calendar can be found at https://www.rtwmotorfest.com/ and on Instagram @rtwmotorfest.
