Calamia & Pampanini, from Dinamic Motorsport, finished on the podium in Race 2. Le Castellet, 13 April 2025 – In the opening race of the 2025 season of the GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli, four Maserati GT2s lined up on the starting grid and the House of the Trident immediately reaped a victory. The Maserati GT2 number 1 for the LP Racing team – driven by Philippe Prette, reigning champion in the Am Class category – started the championship in the best possible way at the Circuit Paul Ricard (France). The French driver, who races with an Italian licence, achieved success in his category in Race 1, starting from the front row. In Race 2, however, Mauro Calamia & Roberto Pampanini in the Dinamic Motorsport Maserati GT2 took third place overall and in the Pro Am Class. In the first race, Prette got off to a great start, always remaining among the leaders and returning to fifth place overall after the pit stop. Even so, he still remained the leader in the Am Class, which he maintained until the finish line. Of the other three Maserati GT2s lined up at the start, the outstanding performance of Switzerland’s Mauro Calamia – with the Dinamic Motorsport team and former winner of the Trofeo Maserati – is worth a mention. His teammate Roberto Pampanini, then in fourth place, handed the car over in ninth position, with a penalty for a false start. After making a second stop, Calamia finished seventh overall. The pair of French drivers from the TFT Racing team – Patrick Charlaix & Jordan Boisson – finished Race 1 in ninth place, fourth in the Am Class. LP Racing’s no. 8 car driven by Anik Patel & Eddie Cheever III was forced to retire after becoming embroiled in an accident and could not even take part in the second stage. Race 2, held in the rain, saw Calamia start strong from the off. He settled into fourth place, but in an attempt to improve his placing he came into contact with an opponent, going into a spin. He resumed the race immediately and began a comeback from the back of the group, before handing over the steering wheel ahead of the pit stop. This move meant Pampanini could return to the track in fourth place and in turn to finish off a determined race, in which he took the third step of the podium. A run-up race for Philippe Prette too, who started from the last row, but was penalised with a drive-through following a contact. In the end, he finished fourth in the Am Class, ahead of the sister car driven by Charlaix & Boisson, in the TFT Racing Maserati GT2. The next round of the GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli is scheduled to take place in Zandvoort, the Netherlands, from 16 to 18 May. Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse: “We’re extremely proud to have demonstrated our racing DNA and nature of performance during the opening weekend of the GT2 European Series 2025! Seeing four cars on the starting grid, as well as the official Safety Car and Leading Car, makes us proud and epitomises the motorsport nature of our Brand. Now more than ever, we’re delighted to offer our customers, teams and gentleman drivers a car with character, a perfect synthesis of advanced technology and performance at the highest levels: seeing the Maserati GT2 compete on the Circuit Paul Ricard and take the lead in the Am Class in Race 1 – confirming the result from the 2024 championship – takes us ahead into another season in which we’re aiming to play a leading role”. The GranTurismo is available with both the high-performance V6 petrol engine, derived from the Nettuno, and a 100% electric version: the GranTurismo Folgore, the first car in the Modena-based brand’s history to adopt this solution. The full-electric range also currently includes the Grecale Folgore, Maserati’s first 100% electric SUV, and the GranCabrio Folgore. Finally, the House of the Trident’s latest addition is the Maserati GT2 Stradale, the road-legal version of the GT2 that took Maserati back to the track in closed-wheel championships. Bad luck intercepts promising Miami weekend

Images are for editorial use only. The Miami E-Prix ended in disappointment for Maserati MSG Racing after holding much promise. The weekend held much promise, showcased with Stoffel Vandoorne’s strong qualifying performance. Unfortunately, bad luck got in the way of a good result and the team took no points away from the weekend. Stoffel was looking to extract maximum out of the car along with Jake Hughes who, although struggling a little in comparison to Stoffel around the Homestead-Miami International Speedway, was still feeling good ahead of qualifying. Margins were incredible tight in Group A, where both Stoffel and Jake were qualifying. Being off the pace by just over four tenths of a second sadly saw Jake out of the group stages, which was tough for the Brit to take having been so fractionally off the leading lap time. Stoffel’s Group A time put him 0.040s behind Porsche’s Antonio Felix Da Costa who topped the group, earning him second in the group stage and a ticket into the Quarter Final Duels. He was up against Andretti’s Jake Dennis and gave the flying lap everything he had. It wasn’t quite enough to beat Dennis, but the 1:23.566 was the second fastest of all drivers relegated from the Quarter Finals, placing him sixth on the grid. As usual, the race became all about strategy, with both Stoffel and Jake running different races to extract the most out of their starting positions. Stoffel’s Attack Mode usage saw him climb up to third, looking set to bring Maserati MSG Racing another podium. He got stuck in the wrong racing pack, which dampened his chances for a podium, but Stoffel was still in a good place to bring home a decent haul of points. Jake focused on energy saving in the start, biding his time to pull a big energy advantage on his competitors. This put him in a great position at the end of the race, looking like he was going to convert his backrow start into a top four finish. But the team’s luck ran out when Jake became tangled in an incident with DS PENSKE’s Max Guenther and Jaguar’s Mitch Evans. Looking to pass Jake, everything bottle necked at the Attack Mode Turn 4 chicane and Guenther went straight into the back of the Maserati Tipo Folgore. Evans joined the incident with nowhere to go, causing the sole red flag of the race with Jake the only retiree of the collision. It was a quick clean up, leaving four racing laps to go, but Stoffel’s earlier brilliant Attack Mode strategy came back to haunt him. Now being in a pack of cars, most of which still had an Attack Mode to use, he was a sitting duck as his second Attack Mode had majority been lost to the red flag. Maserati MSG Racing will regroup and get ready to go again as Formula E heads to Europe, not only for the first European race of the season but for the team’s home race in Monaco. For the first time a double header, Maserati MSG Racing will be looking to put out the best performance, extract the maximum from the cars and bring home a decent haul of points in front of a home crowd and team partners. QUOTES Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “It’s a real shame to end the weekend with a DNF because I really think we were on for a good result. One lap pace wasn’t our strength this weekend – we’ll look over exactly what happened for me in qualifying because starting at the back in a Formula E race is never ideal. But in the race, to see that we have the pace and strategy to climb the grid, be in a position for a top five finish or possibly more, that’s really positive. The team did a great job of executing the energy saving strategy and I was in a really good position in the closing stages and I really think a lot of points were on offer. That’s why it’s so frustrating, or more frustrating, when you’re taken out by another driver. Sure, that’s motorsport and sometimes things don’t go your way, but it’s gutting to leave so many points that I really thought were ours on the table. There are still a lot of positives to take away from this weekend, and that makes me really excited for the next round in Monaco.” Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “From FP one our focus was on finding the perfect setup around this new circuit. It was a positive surprise to have such a strong result in qualifying, giving me some confidence going into the race. We were in a good position at the start, and knew points could be on the cards if we played the strategy right. From lights out the race was tricky, as Formula E races tend to be. So many cars together at the start, it can get chaotic and it’s important to keep your nose clean through the first few laps. We managed to get up into the top three, starting to use our Attack Mode strategy to good effect, but we got slightly too focused on the wrong competitors. It saw us stuck in the wrong pack, fighting with the wrong people, which put us on the back foot. I was still confident we could end the race with decent points, but I got unlucky with the safety car…

More than a million EVs on UK roads as vehicle ownership reaches new high

Images are for editorial use only. SMMT MOTORPARC 2024 12 April 2025 (data for 2024)Hi-res charts available via Dropbox here Record 42 million vehicles on UK roads in 2024, as volumes rise 1.4%, with cars up 1.3% to 36,165,401 units. Number of electric cars in use hits monumental milestone, passing the one million mark with more than 1.3 million now on the road, up 38.9% year on year. Average car fleet CO2 emissions down -1.6% as an ever-expanding EV model choice plus lower-emission hybrids and conventionally fuelled vehicles replace older units. Fleet renewal slows as Brits hold on to their cars for longer, with 43.4% of the parc over 10 years old and average age of car in use rising to new high of 9.5 years. Saturday 12 April, 2025 The number of vehicles on British roads reached its highest ever level in 2024, rising by 1.4% to 41,964,268, according to new Motorparc data published today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The number of cars in use also reached new highs, growing by 1.3% or 470,556 units to 36,165,401, marking the third consecutive year of growth and the second-biggest volume gain since 2016.1 The increase reflects growth in the new car market, which in 2024 saw 1.953 million new cars registered, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) making up 19.6% of the market. Van use also grew to record levels, up 1.8% to 5,102,180 units, with more than one million of these workhorses added to roads since 2015.2 Heavy goods vehicle volumes remained almost unchanged, down just -0.1% or 364 units, at 625,509 units. Bus and coach volumes fell by just -0.1% to 71,718 units, although this means that the UK public transport fleet is now the smallest since records began. Britain’s vehicle parc continues to decarbonise, with a 34.6% increase in plug-in vehicles (BEV and plug-in hybrid) – now accounting for one in 20 (5.1%), or 2,157,360, vehicles in use. Manufacturer discounting has driven up demand for battery electric cars which saw them remain the fastest growing sector of the parc, breaking the million motor milestone as volumes soared by 38.9% to 1,334,246 units. As a result, BEVs comprise 3.7% of cars in use, up a full percentage point on 2023. Conventionally fuelled cars remained the most dominant powertrains, with petrol-powered motors rising by 1.0% to 21.0 million, and an almost unchanged market share of 58.2%, while diesel volumes fell -4.4% to 11.6 million – making up 32.1% of cars in use – and marking the fuel type’s fifth straight year of decline. The proliferation of newer lower and zero emission technologies across the parc led to a reduction in average car CO2, which dropped by -1.6%. This was fuelled by a significant fall in company car emissions, down -5.6% thanks to fiscal fleet incentives and manufacturer investment into an ever-expanding range of electrified model choices to appeal to every motorist. Private car CO2 also dipped, falling marginally by -1.0%, demonstrating a need for consumer fiscal incentives to deliver rapid decarbonisation. Lower uptake in the new car market means motorists are holding onto their cars for longer, with the average age of a car on the road now 9.5 years old, up from 9.3 years in 2023 and much older than the eight year-old average of 2019. More than two-fifths (43.4%) of the total parc has now been in use for more than a decade, predating the introduction of lower-emission Euro 6 technology which has done much to improve air quality. The commercial vehicle parc is also decarbonising, with buses leading the way with an 81.8% increase in zero emission units on last year to 3,494 – accounting for almost one in 20 (4.9%) buses in use. Vans, which support businesses across the country, are also increasingly going zero-emission, with battery electric van volumes increasing by 31.6% to 80,476 units – or 1.6% of the parc. Electric truck use also rose, but overall they account for fewer than 0.1% of the fleet. Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said, “Britain’s vehicle parc is growing, providing essential mobility for the nation while reducing its environmental impact. However, there is scope to push environmental improvements much faster as motorists are holding onto their cars for longer, some one and half years longer on average, than only five years ago. Drivers need more incentives and greater confidence in infrastructure investment if we are to replace the high volumes of older high-emission cars with zero-emission alternatives. Success will keep the country on the move while driving up economic growth from every business dependent on road transport.” Did you know? Superminis remain the most popular car type in use, closely followed by lower medium models. These segments account for almost three out of five cars (59.2%) on the road, making up 11,893,199 and 9,524,299 units respectively. Germany was the largest source of cars on UK roads, accounting for 29.5%, with the UK (14.1%) the second and Spain (10.3%) the third. China is now the 12th largest source of cars. Black remains the most popular car colour of choice, accounting for more than one in five vehicles in use today (20.2%). Automatic transmissions continue to rise as more electric vehicles reach the road, up 9.5%, while manual transmissions have fallen -2.6%. For Wicked musical fans, 660,245 green and 24,863 pink cars were in use on UK roads last year. While red might seem the archetypal colour for buses, white coloured buses are actually the most popular – with 19,797 in use, equal to 27.8% of the fleet. London and the South East are home to the most cars (8,993,282), followed by the North West (4,007,590) and the South West (3,609,861). London and the South East is the region with the most registered EVs in use (456,289). Of all cars in use, 35.1% are registered to women and 51.1% to men, with a 4.0% increase in women owners over the last five years.3 Almost six in 10 EVs are registered to companies, compared with companies accounting for just 10.0% of the overall…

World first: McMurtry Spéirling hypercar drives upside down from stationary

Images are for editorial use only. In stunning world first, McMurtry Spéirling becomes the first car to drive upside down Records tumble as Spéirling claims Top Gear Test Track outright record, to add to Goodwood Festival of Speed and Laguna Seca Hillclimb records Customer deliveries of all-electric hypercar scheduled for 2026; 100 to be made Proprietary Downforce-on-DemandTM fan system enabled upside-down driving Special edition livery used as tribute to McMurtry’s first ever fan car from 2021 Watch the video here In a stunning world first, McMurtry Automotive has driven its record-breaking Spéirling hyper track car upside down. Thomas Yates, Co-founder & Managing Director of McMurtry Automotive used the British hypercar’s proprietary fan system which produces Downforce-on-DemandTM, to ‘suck’ the hypercar to the ‘floor’ of a specially-built rotating rig. The technology demonstration took place at McMurtry’s headquarters in Gloucestershire, England and was attended by employees and independent adjudicators. This monumental feat is yet another record-breaking outing for the Spéirling. Today, it was also announced that the same vehicle has also smashed the Top Gear Test Track record by 3.1 seconds. The previous record holder was a V10 Renault R24 Formula 1 racecar from 2004. It also holds the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb outright record and the Laguna Seca Corkskrew Hillclimb record. The McMurtry Spéirling is a British-built, single-seat, electric hypercar that operates in a league of its own. It was envisioned by one of Britain’s most successful businessmen, the billionaire and prolific inventor Sir David McMurtry, who passed away in December. McMurtry Automotive continues his legacy with a small, agile team of talented and creative engineers. Thomas Yates, Co-founder & Managing Director of McMurtry Automotive, commented: “That was just a fantastic day in the office! Strapping in and driving inverted was a completely surreal experience. The 2000kg of downforce that the fan system can generate is truly astonishing to experience and it’s great to show the reason why our Spéirling continues to take records around the world.” “This demonstration was an exciting proof of concept using a small purpose-built rig, but is perhaps just the beginning of what’s possible. With a longer inverted track or a suitable tunnel, we may be able to drive even further! Huge congratulations and thanks to the entire McMurtry Automotive team, especially the engineers involved in the car and fan system’s design, they are the heroes of today. ” How is it possible? It has long been discussed that high-performance race cars, such as those used in Formula 1, could theoretically be driven upside down. This is due to the amount of downforce that they generate at speed. However, it has never been attempted. Equipped with McMurtry’s patented Downforce-on-DemandTM system, the Spéirling can accelerate, brake, and turn with significantly more grip than other hypercars and racecars, especially at low speed. Importantly, this downforce is available at any speed, even at a standstill. Other hypercars and racecars can only produce downforce at high speeds using aerodynamic surfaces. During the record attempt, Thomas Yates drove the Spéirling up a ramp and onto a purpose-built platform. The floor of the platform then rotated, fully inverting the hypercar. The Downforce-on-DemandTM system created a sufficient vacuum underneath the hypercar’s floor to hold it upside down, exceeding the force of gravity. Once fully inverted, Thomas drove forward, entirely unsupported. This proprietary system also enables the battery-electric hypercar to accelerate to 60mph in just 1.5 seconds, complete a quarter mile in 8 seconds, and corner at more than 3g (three times the force of gravity). The car was presented with a gloss black falcon camouflage livery on a matt black base coat. This is a tribute to the original McMurtry fan car which was unveiled in 2021 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where the public first asked “So can you drive it upside down?”. The falcons are modelled on the company logo, the peregrine falcon, the fastest creature on Earth. There are other graphics including under the rear wing, which are optimised for viewing when upside down. From prototype to productionThe specific car used to set this record is the McMurtry Spéirling PURE Validation Prototype 1 (VP1). It is an evolution of the hypercar that set the Goodwood record and is the next step towards a finalised production model, of which only 100 will be made. The first Spéirling PURE customer deliveries are set for 2026 and will feature a number of enhancements over this prototype, namely a higher 100kWh capacity battery back. This will allow for extended sessions in the Spéirling, providing 20 minutes of track time at ‘GT3 pace’ and ‘record-breaking’ pace for multiple hot laps. The lithium-ion battery cells that will be used are P50B Molicel 21700s delivering both exceptional power delivery and energy density. SafetyWhile the stunt may appear dangerous, the Spéirling is built to the rigorous motorsport safety standards of LMP1 cars – the fastest cars at the world-famous Le Mans 24 Hours. In track and racing conditions, the downforce produced by the Spéirling also plays a vital safety role. As downforce levels are unrelated to speed or direction of travel, testing has demonstrated that if a driver enters a spin or other uncontrolled manoeuvre, the amount of grip and downforce available means that application of the brakes will often see them stop almost immediately, often while still on the tarmac. Young Driver® bucks leasing trend with cash purchase of new fleet

Images are for editorial use only. NatWest’s asset finance business Lombard funds Young Driver’s £2m+ purchase of 170 new Suzukis Swift model’s excellent residuals offer long-term ownership benefits New model’s improved economy expected to save thousands in fuel costs Greater flexibility to de-fleet individual cars early and replace with EVs Balsall Common – Young Driver®, the UK’s foremost under-17s driver-training school, has steered clear of leasing for the first time after taking delivery of its brand-new 170-strong Suzuki Swift fleet, which will provide 150,000 driving lessons for children each year. After 15 years, 1.5 million lessons, and multiple fleet changes, Young Driver has bucked the industry norm and purchased its new fleet outright, rather than leasing the cars. Due to a combination of strong residual values for the Suzukis, and the ability for Young Driver to only offset its loan interest and depreciation against profits – rather than the entire lease payment – the scales weighed in favour of ownership for the first time. “We’ve had a great relationship with NatWest Commercial Banking and Lombard, its asset finance business, for the last three years,” said Ian Mulingani, Young Driver’s managing director. “We’d been discussing the possibility of a cash loan to purchase for some time, and as we drew near to the end of the lease on our previous Vauxhall Corsa fleet, we just needed the right replacement product to maximise the benefits of buying outright. “According to CAP, the all-new Suzuki Swift will retain an excellent 55% of its value after three years and 36,000 miles, which gave Young Driver the confidence to put together a highly competitive deal with Lombard. But we also have the reassurance of a Suzuki warranty of up to seven years and 100,000 miles, so there’s potential to keep our cars for longer, improving our balance sheet. “Furthermore, we no longer have to face punitive fees from a leasing company when the time comes to replace the Suzukis.” Since the new Suzukis can accommodate children from the age of nine (the previous Corsa’s design dictated 10 years and above), Young Driver also has the potential to increase its earnings by introducing an even younger audience to the joys of driving. NatWest Commercial Banking’s senior relationship manager Michelle Watkinson was enthusiastic about Young Driver’s new approach to fleet-funding: “We have an excellent relationship with Ian and the entire Young Driver team that we have built up over the past three years,” she said. “Because we fully understand Young Driver and its goals, we were able to connect the business with Lombard, our asset finance business, to help finance its fleet in a way that supported the business’s growth ambitions.” Lombard’s senior relationship manager Ray Nsemwa, added: “We are really pleased that Lombard has been able to support Young Driver with financing to help it go the distance by purchasing its own fleet. This has the potential to be transformational for its growth goals – enabling the business to expand its reach and grow its income as it continues its mission to make our roads a safer place.” Green tech reduces carbon footprintAs the first driving school to offer carbon negative driving lessons in the UK, Young Driver is committed to teaching greener driving techniques, and using ICE/mild hybrid cars, like the Suzuki Swift, for maximum efficiency. Here, there were further economic benefits to be gained with the new fleet. Based on the manual-transmission Swift’s official combined fuel consumption of 64.2mpg, Young Driver expects to save just under £20,000* in fuel alone, compared with the less economical Vauxhall Corsa. And with a CO₂ figure of 99g/km, a Swift’s emissions are also considerably lower than that of the 117g/km for the outgoing car. Ownership offers option to sell early and shift to EVsYoung Driver’s Suzuki fleet will comprise 160 Swift Motion models, powered by a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, 12v mild hybrid engine, producing 81bhp, and mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. A further 10 Swifts have been ordered with optional CVT transmission for young drivers with impaired abilities, who are not able to operate a conventional three-pedal system. All the Swifts are equipped with He-Man Dual Controls. However, Young Driver’s funding deal means that any single car from the fleet can be sold early without penalty, and its portion of the loan paid off. “With the future so uncertain about demand for EVs, it’s impossible to say if new drivers will want to learn in one, or not,” said Ian. “By owning the cars, we have the flexibility to react to changing trends and potentially replace some cars with EVs early so that the fleet mix is appropriate for the children we’re training.” ENDS For more information about Young Driver: https://www.youngdriver.eu/ For more information about the Suzuki Swift: https://cars.suzuki.co.uk/new-cars/swift/ *Based on each vehicle covering 7,000 miles per year.
