The darkened IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights are another standard feature. The equipment scope also includes the R-Performance package, which is an optional extra for other models. The Golf R, a success story. Volkswagen R as a premium performance brand has already been offering special models for more than two decades. With their equipment for enhanced performance combined with expressive design, they generate enthusiasm all over the world in Volkswagen fans. The Golf R’s success story began in 2002 with…

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service expands its fleet with the Škoda Kodiaq

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service has grown its vehicle fleet with a delivery of 21 Škoda Kodiaqs The cars will be used for flexible duty officer transport duties when attending operational incidents The Kodiaqs were chosen for their spacious interior – particularly the large and flexible boot – with a turnkey conversion direct from Škoda via its approved converter Milton Keynes, 25 June 2024 – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue has expanded its vehicle fleet with a fresh delivery of Kodiaq SUVs. Fully prepared for duty thanks to a Škoda approved converter, the Kodiaqs will be used by the service for flexible duty officer transport when attending incidents. The Kodiaqs, now part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue fleet, are the first Škodas to be used by the service. The SUV features a 2.0-litre TDI 200 PS engine with DSG transmission and all-wheel drive, providing a blend of performance and efficiency with plenty of power and torque. Used across a range of functions, the Škoda Kodiaqs used by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue will be undertaking flexible duty officer transport duties when they need to attend operational incidents, such as road traffic collisions and hazardous material incidents. The cars have been converted by one of Škoda’s approved conversion specialists Pressfab EVO Limited, to meet their specific requirements – particularly around the practical load area with grille and fire extinguishing apparatus – plus the fitment of blue-lights and fully integrated communications equipment. Colin Carter, Fleet Operations Manager, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We have opted for a fleet of Kodiaqs largely due to the amount of space on offer inside. The large boot has enough room for all of the equipment required by our flexible duty fire officers, and the option of having the cars converted by Škoda’s approved converters prior to delivery makes it much easier for us to get the vehicles into service.” Škoda cars can be specified by emergency fleets for Ambulance, Police and Fire and Rescue teams across the UK via Škoda’s bespoke emergency service converters. This includes integration of the emergency services’ communications platform within the infotainment touchscreen and 360-degree lighting. Individual conversion requirements can also be catered for with Škoda’s approved specialist converters.

Iconic 1957 Ferrari 335 S entered into Salon Privé Concours 2024 by American collector

Salon Privé Concours 2024 at Blenheim Palace sees a highly storied 1957 Ferrari 335 S entered by an American collector Chassis #0674 has been driven by Stirling Moss, Peter Collins, Mike Hawthorn, Wolfgang von Trips and others Used as reference for ‘Ferrari’ film by Michael Mann Salon Privé Concours 2024 at Blenheim Palace to be held on 28-31 August 19th year of Salon Privé in 2024: ‘The UK’s most exclusive automotive garden party’ Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva runs on 28-31 August 2024. Tickets available at https://www.salonpriveconcours.com/ An American collector is entering a highly storied, world-famous 1957 Ferrari 335 S into this summer’s Salon Privé Concours at Blenheim Palace, to be held on 28-31 August. Chassis number ‘0674’ had a rich racing career and was driven by stars of 1950s motorsport, before spending more than 40 years as part of famed Ferrari collector Pierre Bardinon’s collection. Salon Privé Concours guests will now have a rare chance to see this remarkable car up close. Acknowledged by many as one of the greatest Ferraris ever, the 335 S starred in the epic 1957 World Sports Car Championship, pipped against fellow front-engined lightweight aluminium-bodied two-seater cars with unlimited engine sizes. What marks the 335 S out is its exceptional four-cam engine, Ferrari’s first. The V12 Tipo 130 block gained new heads with two camshafts per bank, and a remarkable 24 spark plugs, 12 for each 60-degrree vee. As was often the case in 1950s motorsport, this famed Ferrari started out as a 290 MM Spyder Scaglietti, with chassis number ‘0626’. The right-hand drive racer was driven by Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1956 Mille Miglia, where it finished fourth. Finished in red with a nose band in Argentine colours, it then finished third in the Nurburgring 1000km, driven by Phil Hill and Ken Wharton. It also later came second in the Swedish GP, driven by the iconic German racer Wolfgang von Trips. The car was converted to a 315 S Barchetta after the Swedish GP, with a 3.8-litre version of the new engine. The chassis, now renumbered ‘0674’, was developed from 1956’s Type 520, with voluptuous bodywork crafted by Scaglietti. Suspension was quite sophisticated, although Ferrari persisted with drum brakes, rather than the latest trend for discs. It first raced in 315 S guise in the 1957 Sebring 12 Hours, with drivers Peter Collins and Maurice Trintignant setting the pace early on and eventually finishing sixth, behind the dominant Maseratis. Wolfgang von Trips then took it over for the Mille Miglia, where he finished second in what was to be the final Mille Miglia, following a tragic mid-race accident. For the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, the car was uprated again, to its current 335 S guise. Mike Hawthorn and Luigi Musso raced, and set a ferocious pace early on, although the car didn’t finish due to an engine problem. It did take a creditable fourth place in the Swedish GP on 11 August though, again driven by Hawthorn and Musso. Later in the year, the car was modified by Scaglietti to a ‘pontoon’ style, in order to improve brake cooling for the season finale in sweltering Caracas. Ferrari duly finished 1-2-3-4 in the race, with ‘0674’ driven by Hawthorn and Luigi Musso following home the winning duo of Peter Collins and Phil Hill. ‘0674’ was then sold to Luigi Chinetti’s NART operation, and was entered for the famous Cuban Grand Prix best known for Juan Manuel Fangio’s kidnapping. With Stirling Moss and Masten Gregory behind the wheel, the 335 S won the Havana event. Chinetti then repainted it in NART’s legendary blue with a white stripe, and it was later acquired by Mike Garber to race in SCCA events, where a highlight included a win in the Road America 500. After two seasons of competition, the 335 S was by now looking rather race-worn. Garber sold the car to Robert Duesk, known for saving many famous Ferraris, who soon approached noted French collector Pierre Bardinon. Discussions continued for many years, before Bardinon finally agreed to purchase the car in 1970. Once the Ferrari arrived in France, Bardinon’s team began researching it to inform a restoration. It was sent to Carrozzeria Fantuzzi in Modena, where the ‘pontoon’ nose was changed back to the original (the original was retained for display), and the bodywork repainted red. It was then regularly used on the private track Bardinon had built in the grounds of his home. While it rarely left the gates of his private museum, it was still often driven, and also showcased to invited enthusiasts and clubs. The current owner, an American collector, acquired the car at the 2005 Artcurial Retromobil Auction, for nearly £25 million. Described as a Ferrari with a most significant race history, this iconic model has since been showcased at many blue riband events, including Finali Mondiali Daytona and the Ferrari Classiche Concours. In a noteworthy extra piece of provenance, this Ferrari 335 S was meticulously examined prior to filming the new Michael Mann epic, ‘Ferrari’. This focused on the 1957 season that ‘0674’ starred in, with particular focus on the Mille Miglia race in which it finished second. The production team built replicas for the film shoot based on the inspection of this car – securing its place in movie history too! “I’m thrilled this exceptional Ferrari is to join us at Salon Privé Concours this summer,” said Concours Chairman Andrew Bagley. “It has a truly remarkable history, piloted by some of the most iconic racing drivers in the world, and the period records and images that abound for this car justify its status as one of the greatest Ferraris ever built. Thanks to the enthusiasm of our American collector friend, it is set to be a real highlight of our Blenheim Palace event and I look forward to guests from around the world being able to inspect this car.” Entries are closing soon for the 19th edition of the Salon Privé Concours presented…

A comprehensive exterior and interior redesign with clean modern detailing follow the new design DNA established by the coachbuilt Bentley Bacalar and Batur. Outstanding performance is brought by an all-new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain with 782 PS and 1,000 Nm, from a 4.0-litre V8 working in tandem with a 190 PS electric motor. 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds is the result, with the benefit of 50 miles (81 km) of usable electric-only range (on the EU drive cycle) and a total range of 534 miles (859 km) – creating an everyday supercar. The performance of the powertrain is matched by a new chassis system, with new two-chamber air springs paired with new dual-valve dampers, along with Bentley Dynamic Ride (48V active anti-roll control), eLSD and torque vectoring. Incredible body control and the best Continental GT ride comfort to date are the results, supported by a 49:51, rear-biased weight distribution for the first time in the car’s history. Under the skin, a suite of modern innovative technology delivers class-leading capability so that every journey is a seamless experience in terms of driver assistance, infotainment systems and connected car services. The new exterior continues the design revolution for Bentley’s future journey, with the biggest revision to the face of the Continental GT in two decades, and the first mainstream Bentley with single headlamps since the 1950s. World-leading Bentley interior cabin design, materials, quality, and craftsmanship continue with the introduction of further wellness seat technology, new air ionisation, three-dimensional leather textures, new modern quilting, and technical finishes such as new dark chrome. A completely new 400-volt electrical architecture enables the most advanced suite of powertrain technology to be offered by a luxury automotive brand today, delivering emissions of 29 g/km of CO2 and an electric range of 50 miles / 81 km on the WLTP drive cycle. For the first time in the history of the Continental GT, the convertible Continental GTC is being launched concurrently with the coupe – providing ultimate flexibility for customers who appreciate both open topped and closed roof motoring. Both coupe and convertible models will be crafted entirely by hand at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, England. Production and deliveries are due to begin in Q3. The Ultra Performance HybridFor the new Continental GT Speed, a brand-new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain has been developed. The new powertrain combines a new 4.0 litre V8 engine capable of producing 600 PS (584 bhp) with a 190 PS (187 bhp) electric motor. Peak system output is 782 PS (771 bhp) – enough for a 0-60 mph sprint time of just 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h). System torque is increased by over 11 per cent compared to the outgoing W12-powered Continental GT Speed, from 900 Nm = to 1000 Nm (738 lb ft). System power has also increased by 19 per cent, from 659 PS to 782 PS. This makes the new Continental GT Speed the most powerful Bentley ever, beyond the levels of the second-generation Supersports and the Batur. The power is delivered via an eight-speed dual clutch transmission and an electronic limited slip differential (eLSD) to all four wheels, for exceptional power delivery and reliable traction in all conditions. The system uses active torque vectoring front to rear through a centre differential, and precision vectoring across each axle using the brakes. There are three key powertrain system elements: The new 600 PS, 800 Nm (590 lb ft) V8 engine – with no traditional vacuum system, and 350 bar fuel injection pressure (raised from 200 bar) provides cleaner combustion and improved emissions. With the e-motor negating turbo lag, twin single-scroll turbochargers have been used – which reduces complexity and allows them to run hotter, minimising emissions. Therefore, no cylinder deactivation hardware is required, as the engine can be switched off entirely when using the electric motor. The 190 PS, 450 Nm (332 lb ft) electric motor within the transmission housing delivers torque-fill at low engine speed and does the same during gear shifts for extra smoothness. The 25.9 kWh battery, which is mounted behind the rear axle. This helps achieve a perfect weight distribution and up to 85 per cent of the battery capacity is useable. The system manages the energy flows dependent upon the mode chosen – with pure EV, electric boost, regenerative braking – and, most importantly for this new GT Speed – a charge mode, where the engine drives the wheels and charges the battery at the same time. The new class-leading powertrain delivers extreme performance and sets the latest Continental GT apart from other competitors – with more horsepower, more torque and a significant drop in CO2 and fuel consumption figures to around one tenth of equivalent conventional petrol powertrains. Young Driver launches Porsche, Mercedes and Bentley training programme for 10-17 year-olds

Young Driver Exclusive Collection offers under-17s 1:1 tuition in high-end 6-, 8- and 12-cylinder sports and luxury cars YD’s ADI-certified instructors allow kids to experience cars in absolute safety Develops young drivers’ skills further after mastering techniques in Corsas Balsall Common – Young Driver, the UK’s leading under-17s driving company, has today launched Young Driver Exclusive Collection, an all-new programme designed to enthuse 10-17 year-olds about the joy of driving, while honing their car-control skills still further after initial training in Vauxhall Corsas. Young Driver Exclusive Collection offers kids the choice of piloting one of three very special sports and luxury cars: a Porsche 911 Carrera 4, a Mercedes-Benz SL 500, or a Bentley Continental Flying Spur. But with power comes responsibility. All the cars are equipped with dual controls, and during a 30-minute, one-to-one driving session with one of YD’s ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors), young people will be able to experience what it feels like to take control of one of the world’s top performance cars. “We really want young people to get excited about driving again,” said Ian Mulingani, Young Driver’s MD. “Our normal Corsa drives are a popular way to engage kids with driving before they take to the road, and the Young Driver Exclusive Collection cars will take that experience to another level. “But this is all about normalising driving at a young age, reinforcing its importance as a key life skill, and – most importantly – reducing accident rates in the first months and years after a young person has passed their test.” While Young Driver has already trialled the Bentley at its events, which take place at 70 locations around the UK, the Porsche and Mercedes are new additions. The Porsche 911 is a Carrera 4 model, its 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine producing 320bhp and driving all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Arguably, the world’s most recognisable sports car, the 911’s low-set driving position, slick gearshift and responsive throttle will add up to a thrilling drive for any youngster. As will Mercedes’ SL. No ordinary model, Young Driver Exclusive’s car is an SL 500, powered by a 429bhp V8 engine operating through a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It offers a real slice of sporting luxury, with the added benefit of roof-down motoring (if the weather allows!) thanks to the SL’s retractable ‘vario-roof’. Nothing says ‘luxury’ like a Bentley, though, and Young Driver Exclusive Collection’s Continental Flying Spur gives kids a real flavour of the ultimate in motoring opulence. Fitted with a mighty 552bhp, 12-cylinder engine, the Spur sends its power to all four wheels though a six-speed automatic gearbox. Despite its size, the Bentley’s speed-sensitive steering and parking sensors also make it deceptively easy to drive. Young Driver Exclusive Collection joins the company’s other special programmes, including Drive a Classic Car and Fire Engine Driving, also available at selected sites around the UK. However, Young Driver’s fleet of 170 Vauxhall Corsas is where all 10-17 year-olds start their driver training, sitting behind the wheel with an instructor for either 30 minutes or one hour. Here, they learn to navigate around specially-designed courses, with their growing experience recorded after every session in a free Drive Diary. Young Driver caters for under-10s, too. Its fleet of British-built, exclusively-designed Firefly Sport electric cars gives children from the age of four the chance to get behind the wheel for the first time and pave their way to driving the Corsas – and even the Exclusive Collection cars – when they’re old enough. The Young Driver Exclusive Collection is available at selected locations and costs £69.99 for a limited period (normal cost: £74.99).
