Hanover (16 September, 2024) – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be exhibiting a wide range of new models at the IAA Transportation 2024 in Hanover. The Bulli, in particular, will be in the spotlight at the world’s largest trade fair for commercial vehicles (17-22 September) – the completely redeveloped Transporter celebrated its world premiere on 15 September. The new ID. Buzz Pro with a long wheelbase has a larger 86 kW battery, offering superior range. This new battery also supplies the extended version of the dynamic ID. Buzz GTX. With the ID. Buzz Pure2 and ID. Buzz Freestyle2, two new entry-level variants enhance the range; they are equipped with a new 59 kWh5 battery. Also new is the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of the iconic electric commercial vehicle: the ID. Buzz Cargo 4MOTION. In addition, the Multivan eHybrid 4MOTION is celebrating its premiere with a plug-in hybrid AWD. The new California, which is based on the Multivan, the enhanced Crafter, in a wide range of versions, and the new Caddy eHybrid and new Caddy Flexible equipment package will also be present in Hanover. The trade fair appearance will be rounded off by innovative solutions from second stage manufacturers. Volkswagen Group Charging – Elli – will present the innovative integration of its charging services into the Connect Pro fleet tool developed by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles at the IAA.
New Transporter – the world premiere: The IAA highlight from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is the world premiere of the seventh-generation Transporter on the eve of the trade fair. All information on the new Transporter, which launches as a panel van, Kombi and double cab model with platform body, as well as in a Caravelle version, will be available from 16 September.
New shelving system – from the factory: The new Transporter will once again be available with numerous industry solutions from second stage manufacturers. One such solution is the new shelving system developed by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in partnership with Sortimo. It will be shown for the first time at the IAA. The basic system elements can be ordered directly from the factory, with the new Transporter, through Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Customers can order individual equipment for the shelving, which can be installed on both side walls, from Sortimo. These modules are then simply clicked into place without time-consuming assembly. The shelving system has been designed for three commercial areas: trade or service companies and mobile workshops with extensive tools, courier services, and food transport and retail. The Columbus shelving system will be available to order for the new Transporter directly from its market launch in the first quarter of 2025. The Caddy, the ID. Buzz Cargo and the Crafter will also receive the optional shelving system. The new shelving system is a world first, offered exclusively for models from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
New ID. Buzz range expanded: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has expanded the ID. Buzz model range both downwards and upwards. In addition to the 210 kW (286 PS) ID. Buzz Pro models with normal wheelbase (NWB)9 and 79 kWh battery, a long-wheelbase (LWB) 7-seat version of the 210 kW ID. Buzz including a large 86 kWh battery and up to 487km of range was recently introduced, along with two 250 kW (340 PS) ID. Buzz GTX models with all-wheel drive (NWB: 79 kWh, up to 423 km range, LWB: 86 kWh, up to 475 km range). The 250 kW ID. Buzz Cargo 4MOTION is available for the first time with all-wheel drive instead of rear-wheel drive (always NWB, 79 kWh, up to 432 km range). All-wheel drive increases the towing capacity of the ID. Buzz models from 1,200 kg to up to 1,800 kg (braked, 12 per cent gradient). In future, the ID. Buzz Pure, ID. Buzz Freestyle and the ID. Buzz Pure Cargo with 125 kW (170 PS) and 59 kW battery will round off the range at the lower end1. The new ID. Buzz Cargo Pure is available in Germany from 42,710 euros (net)1. At the IAA, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will also be exhibiting an ID. Buzz Cargo as a refrigerated vehicle from the German second stage manufacturer Wükaro, innovatively combining the electric drive system and an electric cooling system.
Connect Pro & Fleet Interface – comprehensive eco-system for corporate clients: With Connect Pro & Fleet Interface, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be showcasing its digital fleet environment at the IAA. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ eco-system for fleet customers is inspired by a wide range of customer needs, enabling the brand to offer a comprehensive digital solution. With Connect Pro, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles offers a comprehensive dedicated portal for managing vehicle fleets. Flexible and user-friendly, the portal can be accessed from a laptop, tablet or smartphone. It provides commercial clients with a smart, central tool for managing their fleets and, with its highlight services, goes above and beyond conventional fleet management. With a notification function for vehicle maintenance, and the automatic appointment requests to preferred repairers, fleet efficiency is increased and downtime is reduced. Software updates can be activated centrally over-the-air to ensure that vehicles are always up to date. VW Connect services can now also be activated without a primary user, which is particularly beneficial for fleets with frequent driver changes. Furthermore, fleet managers are able to see their vehicles’ current locations and any previous journeys. This makes day-to-day work a great deal easier for business owners as they are able to use their vehicles even more efficiently.
New e-charging services – Connect Pro uses Elli: Volkswagen Group Charging – Elli – will be presenting the integration of its charging services into the Connect Pro fleet tool, developed by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles at the IAA. This has been designed for commercial customers who manage their vehicle fleet digitally. The now integrated e-charging services from Elli make it possible to manage public charging cards for the vehicles – an important addition for comprehensive fleet management.
Michael Gotthelf, Vice President Elli Commercial: “Our solutions consolidate important vehicle and charging data on one platform. Whether they are used with permanently assigned company cars or pool vehicles, our charging products are flexibly tailored to the requirements of different company fleets. With Connect Pro, we are accelerating the comprehensive electrification of plant and company locations together with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.”
Fleet Interface – innovative vehicle data solution. Fleet Interface is a fully integrated cross-brand vehicle data solution. Using a data interface (API), fleet customers can define the individual vehicle data to be integrated directly from the OEM into their own fleet management system. Comprehensive data packages containing repair, maintenance and operating data allow for in-depth analysis and optimisation of the total cost of ownership for mixed fleets. What is more, this data can support sustainability analysis and reports as well as the strategic development of fleets. In future, Fleet Interface will allow users to remotely manage vehicle functions, such as the charging process or air conditioning, to make the day-to-day routines of fleet managers even easier.
VW Connect – a host of new services: It is not just the vehicles that have had an update, VW Connect services have as well. A large number of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will integrate artificial intelligence into their online IDA voice assistant via ChatGPT from model year 2025 onwards. Additionally, the streaming app, Spotify, can now be used in Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles infotainment systems. Furthermore, charging services for models like the new eHybrid version of the Caddy offer genuine added value when at home or on the road.
New Multivan eHybrid 4MOTION – hybrid plus all-wheel drive: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is presenting the Multivan in a version with a combined plug-in hybrid and all-wheel drive for the first time. The new Multivan eHybrid 4MOTION is the first Volkswagen Group product line based on the modular transverse matrix to be equipped with this highly innovative system. The 180 kW (245 PS) plug-in hybrid drive temporarily turns the Multivan eHybrid 4MOTION into an electric vehicle for everyday use, as the Bulli can cover long distances on electric power alone thanks to a 19.7 kWh battery. The second-generation plug-in hybrid drive works extremely efficiently and will thus enable the vehicle to cover long distances between refuelling. The powerful drive consists of a combination of an electric drive motor and a turbocharged high-tech petrol engine (1.5 TSI evo2) with VTG (variable turbine geometry) turbocharger.
New California – camper van 2.0: The California is the iconic camper van. Now, a newly developed generation of the bestseller is being launched: the new California. It is based on the long version of the extremely modern Multivan. The camper van has become more spacious, smarter, more sophisticated, more versatile and more sustainable. And yet it still follows in the design footsteps of its iconic predecessors, thus continuing one of the great automotive success stories. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has kept key California details such as the pop-up roof and an interior that is carefully planned down to the smallest detail. And of course, the new California is still the ideal VW vehicle for everyday use, as well as a camper van for life’s ultimate journeys. All this is now achieved even more successfully with the latest powertrain, assist and infotainment systems and a new camper van architecture. Like the Multivan eHybrid 4MOTION, which was first shown at the IAA, the new California will also be available with plug-in hybrid all-wheel drive as an alternative to the turbocharged diesel and petrol engines. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will offer the new California as the Beach, Beach Tour, Beach Camper (with a mini-kitchen in the rear) as well as Coast and Ocean versions (each with a full kitchenette on the driver’s side)1.
New Crafter – hardware and software update: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has enhanced the Crafter and integrated a new cockpit landscape. As part of this, a new generation infotainment system has been introduced. Its distinguishing feature is a visually free-standing display. The Composition infotainment system is used as standard. The Discover Media navigation system is optionally available as the first expansion stage. Both systems have a 26-cm (10.4-inch) touchscreen. The Discover Pro navigation system with a 32-cm (12.9-inch) display is additionally available. The new Crafter also features digital instruments as standard for the first time: the Digital Cockpit Pro. Other new details include an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold function (more space for through-cab access). Assist systems such as Front Assist (autonomous emergency braking including cyclist and pedestrian detection), Lane Assist (lane keeping system), dynamic road sign display and Park Distance Control (front and rear) are now on board as standard. Travel Assist (assisted longitudinal and lateral guidance) is offered as an option for the first time for the Crafter. 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines with 103 kW (140 PS), 120 kW (163 PS) and 130 kW (177 PS) are used for the Crafter with front-, rear- or all-wheel drive, depending on version. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is available as an alternative to the manual six-speed transmission.
New Crafter as Kombi – conversion from AMF-Bruns: At the IAA, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will also showcase the new Crafter as a Kombi for passenger transport that can be ordered from the factory. It is converted by the German second stage manufacturer AMF-Bruns. Thanks to an aluminium Smartfloor system, up to seven individual seats in the passenger compartment can be flexibly arranged. The Crafter Kombi is a 9-seater, including the driver and front passenger seat. An optional electrically extending and retractable step facilitates access to the passenger compartment. Thanks to the individual arrangement of the seats, and a wheelchair restraint system also developed by AMF-Bruns, the Crafter Kombi can also be used for transporting wheelchair users. AMF-Bruns has also developed an electric ramp for the rear of the Crafter to facilitate access for wheelchair users. A private hire vehicle and taxi package is additionally available for this model. Last but not least, Volkswagen will be exhibiting two other Crafter variants at the IAA: the lightweight box body from Junge Fahrzeugbau and the three-way tipper from Schoon1.
New Caddy variants – eHybrid and Flexible: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is expanding the Caddy range with the product line’s first plug-in hybrid drive and the new Flexible equipment specification1. The Caddy eHybrid has a second-generation plug-in hybrid drive on board. Thanks to a 19.7 kWh battery, the all-rounder can cover up to 122 kilometres under electric power alone. Propulsion is provided by the high-tech 1.5 TSI evo2 petrol engine and an electric drive motor. Together, both units develop a system power of 110 kW (150 PS). The new Caddy Flexible offers an innovative new 3-seater bench seat in the second row: this can be folded up completely and converted into a sturdy load compartment partition. The load compartment capacity can thus be expanded to 2,500 litres or 3,100 litres (Caddy Maxi Flexible with long wheelbase) in seconds. The Caddy Flexible has N1 commercial vehicle approval. The new equipment version can be ordered as a TDI, TSI and eHybrid1.
