Lake Windermere, St Ives Bay, Cheddar Gorge and The Giant’s Causeway: Just some of the nation’s best beauty spots, according to new research

24.06.2024

It’s official! England’s largest lake, Lake Windermere has been voted the UK’s most stunning view, according to new research from Isuzu. With its commanding presence and height, the Isuzu D-Max pick-up driver’s seat makes the perfect vantage point to enjoy the view.

One of the most famous areas in the whole of the Lake District, the 10.5-mile lake is famed for being surrounded by stunning mountain peaks and villages. Visited by over 18 million tourists a year, the area is one of the most visited and photographed in the country.

Second on the list of the 30 best beauty spots is St Ives Bay in Cornwall 33% which stretches six miles to the world-famous Godrevy lighthouse, which was the inspiration for Virginia Woolf’s novel, To The Lighthouse.

St Michael’s Mount 25%, also in Cornwall, appears third in the list. A vehicle like the Isuzu D-Max with a 4×4 drivetrain will get you to the best spots to appreciate the iconic views of the rocky island, crowned by a mediaeval church and castle, just off the coast of Marazion and has buildings dating from the 12th century.

Cheddar Gorge in Somerset 25%, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park in Scotland 25% and York Minster 23% also make the list, along with the Brecon Beacons in Wales 22% and The Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland 21%.

One in five 21% love the view of Durdle Door in Dorset, while a further fifth 20% say that nothing beats the view of Stonehenge in Wiltshire.

Also featured were dramatic coastal views such as the Jurassic Coast 24%, Robin Hoods Bay on the Dinosaur Coast in Yorkshire 19%, The Seven Sisters, White Cliffs of Dover 18%.

But the nation also finds space in its hearts for more mountainous places such as Scafell Pike in the Lake District 21%, Ben Nevis in Scotland 20% and Llanberis Pass in Snowdonia 17%.

In fact, the stunning views around the country are so popular that 94% of the 2,000 Brits surveyed say they are planning a UK-based adventure this year. The Isuzu D-Max’s 4×4 pick-up capability will get you where you need to be for maximum viewing pleasure.

Over half 56% believe that the UK is underrated when it comes to how beautiful it really is, with a further 49 percent admitting that its natural beauty makes them feel proud to be British.

51% go so far to say that when it’s sunny, the UK almost feels like you could be abroad, so much so that 40 percent would love to take more staycations.

Half of the respondents said there is nothing better than tucking into an ice-cream on the beach while holidaying at home, with a further 50% loving a cosy Sunday roast in a great pub.

Drinking a cool beer in a pub garden on a hot day 44%, enjoying a cream tea 43% and having a picnic in the park 41% are also activities that Brits are looking forward to doing this year.

Despite 49% saying that they want to discover new parts of the UK and that they love driving the country’s stunning roads 41%, almost eight in ten (77%) worry that their car wouldn’t survive a UK staycation especially if they ventured off road. In addition to this, over a quarter (28%) admit that the idea of driving off track makes them feel nervous, making it difficult for them to reach many of the stunning locations they want to.

George Wallis, Head of Marketing at Isuzu UK, quipped, “Our findings paint a picturesque portrait of Brits’ affection for UK beauty spots. From the majestic shores of Lake Windermere to the colossal charm of the Giant’s Causeway. It’s clear everyone celebrates the stunning scenery and historic gems that make our nation shine. With the Isuzu D-Max on your side, you’ll be sure to easily navigate these breathtaking landscapes and pick-up where others can’t.”
