Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo has been honored with the esteemed ‘Issigonis Trophy’ at the Autocar Awards 2024.
The ‘Issigonis Award,’ named after Mini inventor Sir Alec Issigonis, is presented annually by Autocar to those making historic impacts on one of the world’s largest industries. Known for revolutionizing car manufacturing through innovative designs, Issigonis serves as an inspiration behind this award.
Mark Tisshaw, Editor of Autocar, explained their decision stating, “Luca de Meo’s transformation of Renault Group is remarkable. Achieving record profits in its 126-year history marks one of corporate history’s greatest turnarounds. His focus extends beyond just company success; he addresses industry-wide challenges and offers sustainable solutions. He stands out not only for his influence but also for his grounded nature.”
Upon receiving the award, De Meo remarked, “It is an honor to accept this recognition from such a respected title and experienced journalists. This acknowledges our team’s tremendous effort during challenging years to transform Renault Group while maintaining our ambition to offer emotional yet affordable cars like the fully electric Renault 5. The unwavering support from our Board and shareholders was crucial in achieving this milestone.” Reflecting on Sir Alec Issigonis’ legacy reminds us that innovation must be paired with fun and emotion.”
This marks De Meo’s second major recognition within a year by Autocar; he topped their 2023 Power List 100 last year—a list ranking influential figures based on global reach, spending power, technological impact among other criteria.
