Milton Keynes, UK (28 August, 2024) – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ new brand stand, first seen at the 2024 CarFest festival, called Buzz Stop was designed by internationally renowned artists, Craig Redman and Karl Maier.
The Volkswagen Buzz Stop creative takes cues from the ID. Buzz, the brand’s first all-electric vehicle, the retro-styling and layout of which was inspired by the classic Type 2 (T1) Microbus, an icon of the Volkswagen brand. It was the perfect place for the brand to give a UK debut to its highly-anticipated, family-friendly ID. Buzz 7-seat model.
Curated by the distinguished design duo, Craig & Karl, the new Buzz Stop caught everyone’s attention with its bold design, bright colours and use of different mediums.
Craig & Karl’s collaborative approach melds pop-art themes, bright colours and flat, geometric shapes to create bold work that is filled with simple messages executed in a thoughtful and often humorous way, from illustrations through to installations, such as Buzz Stop.
Celebrated for their ability to communicate complex ideas through a deceptively simple visual language, the duo’s pieces are instantly recognisable and universally appealing. From young children to design-conscious adults, the stand-out stage captured the imaginations of all the family – fitting for a brand renowned for its family-friendly vehicles.
Craig Redman and Karl Maier commented on their new Buzz Stop design: “We were excited to collaborate with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles to conceptualise and bring the Volkswagen Buzz Stop to life. Drawing inspiration from distinctive details on the ID. Buzz, we have created a vibrant, immersive environment where people can experience the car and get a sense of the adventurous, free-spirited lifestyle it represents. The Buzz Stop is a fun and inviting space designed to surprise and delight festivalgoers, offering a welcoming environment to relax and spend time throughout the day.
“Volkswagen’s output is iconic and renowned for its exceptional design and unconventional thinking. We’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to collaborate, uniting a similar sense of precision and playfulness that characterises our work.”
The spacious ID. Buzz 7-seat is the latest addition to the ID. Buzz line-up. The 7-seat provides a longer wheelbase for increased luggage capacity, a standard seven-seat layout and a larger 86kWh battery for even greater range.
The ID. Buzz Life 7-seat starts at £59,545 ‘on the road’ and features a WLTP combined range of 291 miles. The ID. Buzz Style 7-seat is priced from £64,345 and has a WLTP combined range of 286 miles. Both 7-seat models feature the same 286PS single motor as the normal wheelbase versions.1
CarFest, the UK’s biggest family fundraising festival, took place 23-25 August 2024 at Laverstoke Park Farm, Hampshire.
