Bentley Motors celebrates triple triumph with awards for sustainability, inclusivity and corporate social responsibility

Among the awards, the luxury British marque collects Sustainability Initiative Award from Auto Trader Bentley wins twice at the Queer Student Awards, firstly Employer of the Year and Degree Apprentice and BeProud Co-Chair, Benjamin McCormick, named Rising Star of the Year Finally, Bentley receives gold award from the International CSR Awards (Crewe, 4 July 2024) Bentley Motors is pleased to announce its recent recognition across three prestigious awards, underscoring the company’s commitment to inclusivity, corporate social responsibility and sustainability. Two awards were collected at the Queer Student Awards, where Bentley were named Employer of The Year, while one of its colleagues picked up Rising Star of the Year. Thirdly, Bentley’s Environmental Foundation was recognised with a Sustainability Initiative Award by Auto Trader and finally, Bentley won gold at the International CSR Excellence Awards. Queer Student Awards (QSA) The Queer Student Awards are the UK’s first annual student celebration focused on talented young LGBTQ+ people who are proudly leading in their lives and the communities around them. Picking up the Employer of the Year award, this accolade highlights Bentley’s proactive efforts in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment, where all colleagues feel a sense of belonging. This includes support systems and employee resource groups with the colleague networks, as well as initiatives aimed at promoting equality and inclusivity across all levels of the organisation. The judges praised the fact that the DEI strategy has been embedded within the whole business and the aim of being the most diverse luxury car manufacturer. Benjamin McCormick being awarded the title Rising Star of the Year recognises his remarkable impact and potential. As Co-Chair of the BeProud Network, Benjamin has been instrumental in engaging colleagues to help identify and remove barriers, provide peer support, and build networks of allies to raise awareness and support for LGBTQ+ topics at Bentley and in the local community. Commenting on his achievement, Benjamin McCormick, said:“It was a wonderful surprise to be nominated for this award celebrating some amazing LGBTQ+ young people whose impact on the world often goes unrecognised. As someone who grew up struggling to find relatable role models, it is heart-warming to be considered and see awards such as the QSA provide a platform for others like me, showing that it is possible to be queer and thrive in study, work, and life. “To win this award for me demonstrates that young queer people can make a positive impact on the world, even in organisations as prestigious and established as Bentley, for the future. If I can do it, I hope it gives courage for others to do the same.” Auto Trader Awards Bentley Motors, through the Bentley Environmental Foundation, received the Sustainability Initiative Award from Auto Trader, highlighting the company’s significant efforts to tackle the climate crisis through a variety of global projects. The judges were impressed by the breadth of Bentley’s sustainability initiatives. Bentley’s collaboration with local charities and Non-Governmental Organisations extends the reach and impact of the luxury British marque’s sustainability efforts. The Bentley Environmental Foundation addresses the environmental and social impacts of climate change, working with global communities and charities to develop solutions for some of the most important challenges facing humanity today. International CSR Excellence Awards Finally, Bentley was honoured with a gold Award at the International CSR Excellence Awards for Community Commitment. This recognition was awarded for Bentley’s new community investment strategy, Advancing Life Chances, which showcases the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and advancing life chances in the community. The International CSR Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives. Recognising organisations that demonstrate exceptional leadership and commitment to positive social and environmental impact, the awards highlight innovative projects and strategies that drive meaningful change. Commenting on the collection of awards, Member of the Board for Human Resources at Bentley Motors, Karen Lange said:“These awards are a reflection of the extraordinary dedication and talent of our colleagues at Bentley Motors, and their creativity and commitment to fostering an inclusive, engaged, and sustainable workplace. I am incredibly proud of our team’s relentless pursuit of excellence and their passion for making a positive impact both within our company and in the wider community. “I would also like to personally acknowledge Benjamin’s deserved recognition. His leadership and passion as Co-Chair of the BeProud Network have significantly contributed to our mission of fostering a diverse and inclusive culture at Bentley. Benjamin’s efforts exemplify the spirit of our Beyond100 strategy, driving us toward a future where inclusivity and innovation go hand-in-hand.”

40 seconds to discover how the new CUPRA Formentor is produced

Martorell, 04-07-2024 – Something’s changed at the Martorell plant’s assembly line: the new Matrix LED three-triangle eye signature makes its appearance for the first time, while the exclusive shades Century Bronze Matt and Enceladus Grey Matt fill the paint shop with new hues of colour. CUPRA’s design obsession is taking shape with the start of production of the new CUPRA Formentor and CUPRA Leon, which will begin distribution in the third quarter of 2024. Designed, developed and manufactured in Martorell, the CUPRA Formentor is the brand’s best-seller, recording more than 347,000 units since its launch in 2020. Now, revamped, it has already become an icon. Check out its production process captured in this 40-second video. The CUPRA Formentor’s success story is also that of more than 4,000 employees involved in the production of its restyled version. A new car rolls off the line every 69 seconds in a dynamic, meticulous process in which every detail is analysed and reviewed to ensure maximum quality. In fact, several innovative tools such as deep learning and top-notch digitalised systems have been implemented in its production in a further step towards the transformation of the plant. Among these innovations is the Prüfer Digital, an automatic station equipped with an artificial vision system that controls the presence, position and condition of different parts mounted in the vehicle, with more than 60 simultaneous control points that focus on both mechanics and wiring. Also playing an essential role is the Smart Plug system, a technology used in the production process of the CUPRA Formentor and the CUPRA Leon to deal with the assembly of more than 90 electronic control units. This is done through remote production, automatically starting up all the control units of up to 45 cars at a time. But the biggest innovation is the new KTL Oven, the first 100% electric transversal oven in the entire Volkswagen Group. It’s involved in the paint-drying process, providing an anti-corrosion layer, and takes up 42% less space than a conventional oven, thanks to a reduction in length. It also reduces energy consumption by up to 25%. The Martorell facility is the Volkswagen Group’s third largest plant in Europe in terms of volume. Therefore, “we’re working to transform and enhance the factory, integrating the most advanced technologies in its manufacturing and structural processes” explains Markus Haupt, CUPRA’s Vice-President for Production and Logistics. In this respect, together with the CUPRA Leon, the CUPRA Formentor is the first model to benefit from the 3-billion-euro investment for the ongoing transformation of the Martorell plant, which guarantees that production will be more agile, sustainable and profitable on the road to electrification.

Unique 1950 Ferrari 166MM/212 Export ‘Uovo’ to star in the 2024 Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva Private Clients

Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva Private Clients at Blenheim Palace welcomes a unique 1950 Ferrari 166MM/212 Export ‘Uovo’ Led the 1951 Mille Miglia and won the Coppa della Toscana the same year A rare opportunity to enjoy a car seldom seen at concours events Salon Privé 2024 at Blenheim Palace to be held on 28-31 August 19th year of Salon Privé in 2024: ‘The UK’s most exclusive automotive garden party’ Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva Private Clients runs on 28-29 August 2024. Tickets available at https://www.salonpriveconcours.com/ A unique 1950 Ferrari 166MM/212 Export ‘Uovo’ is to be a headline attraction at this summer’s Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva Private Clients at Blenheim Palace, 28-29 August. ‘Uovo’ is Italian for ‘egg’, which perfectly describes this futuristic car’s attention-grabbing design, and its presence at the UK’s most exclusive automotive garden party is certain to cause a stir. Described as one of the most famous Ferraris ever built, it was created by a young and enthusiastic team as an ultra-aerodynamic one-off designed to perform better in high-speed road races such as the Mille Miglia. Racing driver Giannino Marzotto (a two-time Mille Miglia winner) was the driving force behind ‘Uovo’. He admired Ferrari’s V12 engines but was certain that improved aerodynamics could unlock even more performance. So, with his brother Vittorio, he placed an order for two Ferrari 212 Export chassis, to be delivered with engines and running gear, but without bodywork. He discussed his ideas with coachbuilder Paolo Fontana, plus talented young engineer and designer Franco Reggiani. The idea for a sleek, low and rounded coupé, backed up by a very rigid frame that would ensure the suspension could work without undue disturbance from rough roads started to take shape. Reggiani, who had worked in the aeronautical industry during the war was eager to achieve a lightweight car of a beautiful shape, with a steeply reclined windscreen and a rounded, tapered profile. Despite it being incredibly difficult to work with, he crafted the bodywork using ‘Peraluman’, a lightweight aluminium alloy incorporating magnesium. Reggiani designed a low nose, a narrow body to slip through the air and pronounced and rounded front and rear wings framing a slim cockpit. Uniquely, instead of traditional A-pillars, the car had braided steel cables that held the roof in place, while the windscreen was shallow (and made from Perspex, rather than glass). He also positioned the driver’s seat towards the rear of the car following guidance from Enzo Ferrari that sitting towards the rear helps the driver have a better perfection of oversteer. Although Marzotto had ordered 212 Export chassis, they were late in arriving, so they used an existing 166 MM Touring Barchetta chassis. When the two 212 Exports finally turned up, the engine was removed from one of them to be fitted in the new car. It was based on the original 1.5-litre V12 Ferrari, but now had a capacity of 2.6 litres, and produced 190bhp. A key feature of the Uovo was its extra-large fuel tank, configured with long-distance road races in mind, which allowed the driver to cover more than 300 miles between stops. This was a key factor in doing so well in the 1951 Mille Miglia and in scoring its breakthrough victory at the 1951 Coppa della Toscana. It then scored a memorable victory in the 1952 Trento-Bondone, driven by Giulio Cabianca and subsequently spent a few years racing in North America, before being retired into a private collection. This unique car appeared as one of the legends of the marque at Ferrari’s 50th anniversary celebrations at the Museo Enzo Ferrari in 1997, but ‘Uovo’ remains a concours rarity so the 2024 Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva Private Clients provides a rare opportunity to inspect this car up close. “This exceptional car has been something of an undiscovered gem for decades,” said Salon Privé Concours Chairman Andrew Bagley. “It is an icon that has spent its life largely hidden behind closed doors, so I am thrilled that we have secured it to be one of the star draws at Blenheim Palace this August. I know it will be a memorable attraction for our guests, who will relish the opportunity to finally see this wonderfully unique and iconic Ferrari up close.” Entries are almost closed for the 19th edition of the Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva Private Clients, with entries only now accepted for the following classes: Porsche ‘RS’ Pre-2004 Legendary Liveries Those who would like to enter a car into the 2024 Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva Private Clients should contact Concours Coordinator Nick Wilkes on +44 (0) 7795 213 361 or on: NickW@salonpriveconcours.com [ENDS] Press Accreditation Rebecca Leppard, Eventageous PR LtdTel: + 44 (0) 1452 260063 /+ 44 (0) 7749 852481, Email: rebecca@eventspr.co.uk For all event information, please visit https://www.salonpriveconcours.com/You can also follow on Facebook: @salonpriveuk / Instagram: @salonpriveuk / Twitter: @salonpriveuk

Removal van spotted, ready to assist Rishi!

A Renault Master removal van has been spotted, ready to assist Rishi Sunak in case he faces an imminent departure from Downing Street.Bearing the cheeky phrase ‘Moving in a hurry? We’ve got space for everything… including a Sky dish’ in reference to Rishi’s infamous reply when asked if he’d gone without anything growing up, the vehicle appears to be ready to go as soon as the Prime Minister is. A spokesperson for Renault said: “Nobody likes moving, but a spacious, economical and refined van like the Renault Master is perfect for ensuring that none of life’s essentials get left behind, even when you have to leave in a hurry.”

Cost is the culprit for stalling new car retail demand…

Ian Plummer, Commercial Director, Auto Trader:“June marked the 8th consecutive month of decline in retail sales – quite a contrast to the months of huge demand we’ve been tracking in the used car market. With average new car prices rising almost 40% over the last five years, it’s clear cost is the culprit. Manufacturers are responding with discounts but they’re failing to keep pace, which is forcing many buyers to opt for a used alternative. “Whoever forms the next government needs to address electric car affordability and provide long term stability for the market, securing the future of the salary sacrifice and Benefit in Kind schemes is essential as these drive the majority of new electric car uptake and it will be very difficult to scale without these. The market for used EVs is much stronger, which shows drivers are willing to go electric when the price is right.”

Suzuki voted Best Manufacturer in the Car Dealer Power Survey

The full list of car manufacturers have been announced in the 2024 Car Dealer Power Survey and we’re proud to announce that Suzuki has been voted Best Manufacturer overall out of a total of 25 brands. Suzuki received an average score of 90.8% satisfaction across the 13 categories scoring particularly well for aftersales, brand awareness, accessibility, requirements and return-on-investment. This a great result after placing fourth in last year’s survey with a score of 82.8%, an overall 8% improvement for 2024. For the manufacturers section of the survey, dealers were asked to anonymously rank their manufacturer partners in 13 categories that cover all areas of the franchise. The scores are then taken from the individual categories to create the overall score. James Baggott, editor in chief of Car Dealer Magazine, said: ‘Suzuki should be extremely proud of this result. The brand rose three places on last year’s placing – it’s a hugely deserved win. ‘It’s clear Suzuki’s dealers are happy as they gave very high scores for aftersales, brand awareness, accessibility, requirements and return-on-investment.’ Baggott concluded: ‘Suzuki really should be congratulated as it is a small outfit compared to some of the names in this survey. However, the brand is evidently doing an outstanding job in the eyes of its dealers.’ In addition to this, Swift was voted ‘Highly Commended’ for Car of the Year which was a great acknowledgement after its launch in April this year. Up to Seven Years Warranty – Free of Charge.Introduced last year and with over 26,000 customers now registered, low cost of ownership is bolstered with the inclusion of up to seven years warranty. This is offered free of charge once the car reaches the end of its standard manufacturer warranty period and is then booked in for its next scheduled service within the Suzuki Dealer network. This warranty stays in place until the next qualifying service and is then simply renewed again up to a maximum vehicle age of 7 years / 100,000 miles – whichever comes first.
