VW Golf Mk1 Cabriolet leads new remastered Milltek Classic exhaust range

Premium performance exhaust specialist extends its range of OEM+ systems for modern classic heroes from the 1980s and 1990s, updated with modern technologies Latest products for the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet Mk1 enhance the aesthetics and soundtrack of the classic convertible, just in time for top-down motoring season Updated Milltek Classic range also includes popular BMW M3 E30 and Peugeot 205 GTI models Milltek is announcing updates to its range of enhanced ‘Milltek Classic’ exhaust systems this week, led by a new OEM+ design for Volkswagen’s first-generation Golf Cabriolet. Arriving just in time for the season of roof-down motoring, the latest Milltek Classic offering is available in resonated or louder non-resonated specification, with each option promising to subtly enhance the standard engine note of the iconic eighties drop-top while remaining faithful to the original factory exhaust tip style. The Milltek Classic range includes many popular designs from the company’s 40-year history, with each new product extensively updated and re-engineered using the latest technology and manufacturing processes. All Milltek Classic applications are designed as ‘OEM+’, and promise to enhance performance, quality, durability and sound, alongside improved material quality, silencer design, and acoustics. All Milltek Classic systems benefit from the company’s renowned, extensive R&D process – each new development begins with the original ‘OEM’ exhaust system, with engineers identifying weaknesses and restrictions using a 3D scanning and testing process. Other popular Milltek Classic systems include applications for the BMW M3 (E30) and Peugeot 205 GTI – a pair of iconic ‘80s classics which have vastly increased in value during the last decade. While both have been hugely popular vehicles with Milltek customers throughout the company’s history, Milltek says that customers are now moving away from larger, performance-focused exhausts in favour of a factory finish. The latest Mk1 Golf Cabriolet development has also reflected the company’s ‘by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts’ philosophy, calling on Managing Director Steve Pound’s personal Helios Blue example as part of the design and testing work. Steve Pound, Managing Director of Milltek, said: “Demand for the Milltek Classic range has been creeping up over the last two years, and the Mk1 Golf Cabriolet is one of the cars we’ve noticed becoming hot property with our customers. Our designs are tailor-made for those looking to upgrade the performance, sound and durability of their exhaust, benefitting from everything we’ve learned over the last forty years, while keeping a tailpipe design that doesn’t deviate too much from stock.” For more information, customers are invited to contact their nearest Milltek Sport stockist, which can be found at www.millteksport.com, or call Milltek Sport on 01322 227 280.

Iconic 1957 Ferrari 335 S entered into Salon Privé Concours 2024 by American collector

Salon Privé Concours 2024 at Blenheim Palace sees a highly storied 1957 Ferrari 335 S entered by an American collector Chassis #0674 has been driven by Stirling Moss, Peter Collins, Mike Hawthorn, Wolfgang von Trips and others Used as reference for ‘Ferrari’ film by Michael Mann Salon Privé Concours 2024 at Blenheim Palace to be held on 28-31 August 19th year of Salon Privé in 2024: ‘The UK’s most exclusive automotive garden party’ Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva runs on 28-31 August 2024. Tickets available at https://www.salonpriveconcours.com/ An American collector is entering a highly storied, world-famous 1957 Ferrari 335 S into this summer’s Salon Privé Concours at Blenheim Palace, to be held on 28-31 August. Chassis number ‘0674’ had a rich racing career and was driven by stars of 1950s motorsport, before spending more than 40 years as part of famed Ferrari collector Pierre Bardinon’s collection. Salon Privé Concours guests will now have a rare chance to see this remarkable car up close. Acknowledged by many as one of the greatest Ferraris ever, the 335 S starred in the epic 1957 World Sports Car Championship, pipped against fellow front-engined lightweight aluminium-bodied two-seater cars with unlimited engine sizes. What marks the 335 S out is its exceptional four-cam engine, Ferrari’s first. The V12 Tipo 130 block gained new heads with two camshafts per bank, and a remarkable 24 spark plugs, 12 for each 60-degrree vee. As was often the case in 1950s motorsport, this famed Ferrari started out as a 290 MM Spyder Scaglietti, with chassis number ‘0626’. The right-hand drive racer was driven by Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1956 Mille Miglia, where it finished fourth. Finished in red with a nose band in Argentine colours, it then finished third in the Nurburgring 1000km, driven by Phil Hill and Ken Wharton. It also later came second in the Swedish GP, driven by the iconic German racer Wolfgang von Trips. The car was converted to a 315 S Barchetta after the Swedish GP, with a 3.8-litre version of the new engine. The chassis, now renumbered ‘0674’, was developed from 1956’s Type 520, with voluptuous bodywork crafted by Scaglietti. Suspension was quite sophisticated, although Ferrari persisted with drum brakes, rather than the latest trend for discs. It first raced in 315 S guise in the 1957 Sebring 12 Hours, with drivers Peter Collins and Maurice Trintignant setting the pace early on and eventually finishing sixth, behind the dominant Maseratis. Wolfgang von Trips then took it over for the Mille Miglia, where he finished second in what was to be the final Mille Miglia, following a tragic mid-race accident. For the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, the car was uprated again, to its current 335 S guise. Mike Hawthorn and Luigi Musso raced, and set a ferocious pace early on, although the car didn’t finish due to an engine problem. It did take a creditable fourth place in the Swedish GP on 11 August though, again driven by Hawthorn and Musso. Later in the year, the car was modified by Scaglietti to a ‘pontoon’ style, in order to improve brake cooling for the season finale in sweltering Caracas. Ferrari duly finished 1-2-3-4 in the race, with ‘0674’ driven by Hawthorn and Luigi Musso following home the winning duo of Peter Collins and Phil Hill. ‘0674’ was then sold to Luigi Chinetti’s NART operation, and was entered for the famous Cuban Grand Prix best known for Juan Manuel Fangio’s kidnapping. With Stirling Moss and Masten Gregory behind the wheel, the 335 S won the Havana event. Chinetti then repainted it in NART’s legendary blue with a white stripe, and it was later acquired by Mike Garber to race in SCCA events, where a highlight included a win in the Road America 500. After two seasons of competition, the 335 S was by now looking rather race-worn. Garber sold the car to Robert Duesk, known for saving many famous Ferraris, who soon approached noted French collector Pierre Bardinon. Discussions continued for many years, before Bardinon finally agreed to purchase the car in 1970. Once the Ferrari arrived in France, Bardinon’s team began researching it to inform a restoration. It was sent to Carrozzeria Fantuzzi in Modena, where the ‘pontoon’ nose was changed back to the original (the original was retained for display), and the bodywork repainted red. It was then regularly used on the private track Bardinon had built in the grounds of his home. While it rarely left the gates of his private museum, it was still often driven, and also showcased to invited enthusiasts and clubs. The current owner, an American collector, acquired the car at the 2005 Artcurial Retromobil Auction, for nearly £25 million. Described as a Ferrari with a most significant race history, this iconic model has since been showcased at many blue riband events, including Finali Mondiali Daytona and the Ferrari Classiche Concours. In a noteworthy extra piece of provenance, this Ferrari 335 S was meticulously examined prior to filming the new Michael Mann epic, ‘Ferrari’. This focused on the 1957 season that ‘0674’ starred in, with particular focus on the Mille Miglia race in which it finished second. The production team built replicas for the film shoot based on the inspection of this car – securing its place in movie history too! “I’m thrilled this exceptional Ferrari is to join us at Salon Privé Concours this summer,” said Concours Chairman Andrew Bagley. “It has a truly remarkable history, piloted by some of the most iconic racing drivers in the world, and the period records and images that abound for this car justify its status as one of the greatest Ferraris ever built. Thanks to the enthusiasm of our American collector friend, it is set to be a real highlight of our Blenheim Palace event and I look forward to guests from around the world being able to inspect this car.” Entries are closing soon for the 19th edition of the Salon Privé Concours presented…

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service expands its fleet with the Škoda Kodiaq

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service has grown its vehicle fleet with a delivery of 21 Škoda Kodiaqs The cars will be used for flexible duty officer transport duties when attending operational incidents The Kodiaqs were chosen for their spacious interior – particularly the large and flexible boot – with a turnkey conversion direct from Škoda via its approved converter Milton Keynes, 25 June 2024 – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue has expanded its vehicle fleet with a fresh delivery of Kodiaq SUVs. Fully prepared for duty thanks to a Škoda approved converter, the Kodiaqs will be used by the service for flexible duty officer transport when attending incidents. The Kodiaqs, now part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue fleet, are the first Škodas to be used by the service. The SUV features a 2.0-litre TDI 200 PS engine with DSG transmission and all-wheel drive, providing a blend of performance and efficiency with plenty of power and torque. Used across a range of functions, the Škoda Kodiaqs used by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue will be undertaking flexible duty officer transport duties when they need to attend operational incidents, such as road traffic collisions and hazardous material incidents. The cars have been converted by one of Škoda’s approved conversion specialists Pressfab EVO Limited, to meet their specific requirements – particularly around the practical load area with grille and fire extinguishing apparatus – plus the fitment of blue-lights and fully integrated communications equipment. Colin Carter, Fleet Operations Manager, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We have opted for a fleet of Kodiaqs largely due to the amount of space on offer inside. The large boot has enough room for all of the equipment required by our flexible duty fire officers, and the option of having the cars converted by Škoda’s approved converters prior to delivery makes it much easier for us to get the vehicles into service.” Škoda cars can be specified by emergency fleets for Ambulance, Police and Fire and Rescue teams across the UK via Škoda’s bespoke emergency service converters. This includes integration of the emergency services’ communications platform within the infotainment touchscreen and 360-degree lighting. Individual conversion requirements can also be catered for with Škoda’s approved specialist converters.

McLaren CEO calls for UK to be a supercar ‘centre-of-excellence’ for next-generation battery technology

The UK, with its rich history in high-performance automotive manufacturing and elite motorsport, faces a golden opportunity to lead the electrification of supercar production if it can attract investment into the domestic supply-chain, says McLaren Automotive CEO, Michael Leiters. Mr Leiters says the existing UK supply-chain is currently not equipped to meet the unique performance requirements of electric supercars and calls on any future UK Government to provide a strategic roadmap for investment in future powertrain technologies. “A clear industrial strategy, led by investment in the domestic supply-chain, will deliver growth, support jobs, help decarbonise the economy and secure a vibrant future for the UK performance car industry,” says Mr Leiters. “It’s time we regained confidence in our sector by investing in a world-class domestic supply-chain to support the development of tomorrow’s high-performance vehicles,” he says. “The UK was once the world’s largest vehicle exporter. Today it remains home to some of the world’s most admired performance car brands, as well as the majority of Formula 1 racing teams,” says Mr Leiters. “We must harness the skills, knowledge and ingenuity of the UK motorsport and performance car industry to create a global, high-performance centre of excellence,” he says. “UK-based luxury and sports car brands command tremendous pricing power thanks to their rich histories, intrinsic brand value and class-leading performance attributes. “As a result, the productivity gross value added of McLaren employees is 51% higher than that of the UK automotive manufacturing sector as a whole. “With more than 90% of McLaren supercars being exported, the UK performance car industry provides an excellent return on investment for taxpayers,” says Mr Leiters. Mr Leiters says government support is also essential in order to “de-risk” the transition to electrification. “The costs of this technological shift are astronomical, especially for low-volume, highly-specialised suppliers,” he says. “Today, customer demand for electric supercars remains extremely low as the technology is not sufficiently mature to rival the performance of today’s hybrid and combustion engine offerings, which makes it a risky investment both for OEMs and their suppliers. “But we have an opportunity to invest in next-generation, high power-dense battery cell manufacturing and ensure the UK is at the forefront of future performance car powertrain technology,” he says. “Even hybrid vehicles, which we expect will account for the majority of supercars sold throughout this decade, require the need to locally-source high-performance battery technology due to the EU ‘rules of origin’ requirements on exported vehicles,” says Mr Leiters. Mr Leiters says the challenge of meeting rules of origin requirements would only increase with the shift to pure electric vehicles. “Today, our hybrid McLaren Artura powertrain has 64% UK content. If this car was a pure EV, the UK content of the powertrain would reduce to 13% because we cannot currently source the relevant componentry in the UK.” Mr Leiters says that historically it has been the luxury and high-performance market that has led the industry in technological change. “Look at the McLaren P1 – a technological trail-blazer which proved the capability of high-performance hybrid technology long before electrification was in the mainstream.” “Developing a pure EV McLaren supercar, which can rival – if not exceed – the performance and driver-engagement of today’s supercars, could help drive the transition towards pure electrification among mass-market customers,” he says. Mr Leiters says that attracting the right battery suppliers to the UK would also bring long-term benefits outside the performance car industry. “In the future, a thriving UK supply-chain specialising in cutting-edge, high energy density cells would not only support supercar production but also other advanced manufacturing needs such as vertical take-off aircraft and drones,” he says.

Aston Martin Vantage claims maiden win in North America as The Heart of Racing records famous Watkins Glen victory

New Aston Martin Vantage GT3 takes first win in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Watkins Glen Partner team The Heart of Racing claims brilliant fightback victory in weather affected Six Hours of the Glen Works driver Ross Gunn moves into IMSA GTD Pro class championship fight Victories around the world as Vantage comes to the fore in FFSA GT, IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, NLS, and the British GT Championship at Spa Monday, 24 June, 2024, Watkins Glen, North America: Aston Martin’s new Vantage GT3 recorded its first win in the United States of America thanks to a brilliant IMSA WeaterTech SportCar Championship GTD Pro class victory at Watkins Glen, with partner team the Heart of Racing [THoR]. Works driver Ross Gunn (GBR) and FIA World Endurance Championship regular Alex Riberas (ESP) staged an enthralling fightback in the Six Hours of the Glen endurance classic, which was affected by rainstorms and subject to a red flag period mid-race because of standing water on the track. Having lost a lap earlier in the race, when the team found itself on the wrong tyres for the conditions when the weather changed rapidly, THoR kept its resolve and fell back on its renowned strategic nous, as well as benefitting from a perfectly-judged and courageous drive by Riberas, to bring the Aston Martin back into contention. When the red flag period was lifted and the field was brought back to green flag conditions in the final stages, Gunn found himself in second place in the GTD Pro class, behind the leading Corvette, with 16 minutes to go. Aware that the leader was low on fuel, the Briton applied as much pressure as he dared in greasy conditions and forced his rival to pit for fuel on the last lap, which gave THoR the class lead and ultimately, the win. “This was a fantastic day for The Heart of Racing team and a great day for Vantage,” said team principal Ian James. “We’ve been working hard to bring this kind of result to the table all season and coming off the back of the podium Ross and Alex recorded at the previous race in Detroit, we’re beginning to build some momentum into the season. We were in contention in the 24 Hours of Le Mans until misfortune struck and so it’s great to be able to bounce back with a victory, our first of the season, at the very next race. I want to thank all the team for the fantastic job, we executed well and held steady in tough conditions.” Gunn, who celebrated his eighth class victory in America’s most prestigious endurance championship, added: “This new Vantage GT3 is good in all conditions and it felt particularly strong here at Watkins Glen. To be honest, with this car, it feels like this result has been coming for a little while, and I believe we are really only beginning to tap into its full potential. Alex also had a lot thrown at him today and he deserves this win as much as anyone.” This was the duo’s second victory at Watkins Glen, having also won the race with HoR’s previous generation of Vantage in 2022. Gunn now lies third in the standings 60 points behind the GTD Pro class leaders, with Riberas eighth having missed the Laguna Seca round when he competed in the FIA WEC 6 Hours of Spa, in May. Underlining the performance of the new Vantage GT3, partner team Magnus Racing also clinched a podium finish with drivers John Potter (USA), Andy Lally (USA) and Spencer Pumpelly (USA), taking third place in the GTD class in only their third race with the car. The new Aston Martin Vantage GT3, which shares the mechanical architecture of the new Vantage road car unveiled earlier this year at Silverstone, and which is built around Aston Martin’s proven bonded aluminium chassis and powered by its fearsome twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine, has now claimed victories in three key continents in which it competes, through the month of June D’station Racing recorded the car’s first class victory with a win in the SUPER GT GT300 category in Suzuka, while Blackthorn Racing clinched a maiden European win for it in the second Road to Le Mans race on the famous circuit at La Sarthe, immediately prior to the start of the famous 24 Hour race last weekend. The team followed that win up with a strong British GT Championship Silver Am class second position, from pole, at Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday, perfectly complimenting a GT4 Silver class victory for Forsetti Motorsport with the new Vantage GT4. It was the team’s fourth class win with Vantage and means it leads both the GT4 Silver and Pro-Am classes with four rounds left to contest. Meanwhile in the ADAC Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, a championship run exclusively on the fearsome Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, Aston Martin partner team Walkenhorst Motorsport claimed its first class victory with the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3, taking the tally to four wins for the car around the world so far, as the squad swept to an unchallenged win in the SP9 Pro-Am class. The perfect preparation ahead of this weekend’s Spa 24 Hours, in Belgium. To round up a strong weekend for the British ultra luxury sports car brand, Team TGM also won the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race running a previous generation Vantage GT4. Adam Carter, Head of Endurance Motorsport, said: “June has proved to be a red-letter month for the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 with wins in Japan, Europe and now the USA. It’s fitting that our partner The Heart of Racing, which took Aston Martin to its first IMSA championship title and Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona win, should be the team to claim the first victory for the car in America. It’s a great motivation for everyone at Aston Martin as we look to convert the potential we showed in the Nürburgring 24 Hours and the 24 Hours of Le Mans into a strong…

Young Driver launches Porsche, Mercedes and Bentley training programme for 10-17 year-olds

Young Driver Exclusive Collection offers under-17s 1:1 tuition in high-end 6-, 8- and 12-cylinder sports and luxury cars YD’s ADI-certified instructors allow kids to experience cars in absolute safety Develops young drivers’ skills further after mastering techniques in Corsas Balsall Common – Young Driver, the UK’s leading under-17s driving company, has today launched Young Driver Exclusive Collection, an all-new programme designed to enthuse 10-17 year-olds about the joy of driving, while honing their car-control skills still further after initial training in Vauxhall Corsas. Young Driver Exclusive Collection offers kids the choice of piloting one of three very special sports and luxury cars: a Porsche 911 Carrera 4, a Mercedes-Benz SL 500, or a Bentley Continental Flying Spur. But with power comes responsibility. All the cars are equipped with dual controls, and during a 30-minute, one-to-one driving session with one of YD’s ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors), young people will be able to experience what it feels like to take control of one of the world’s top performance cars. “We really want young people to get excited about driving again,” said Ian Mulingani, Young Driver’s MD. “Our normal Corsa drives are a popular way to engage kids with driving before they take to the road, and the Young Driver Exclusive Collection cars will take that experience to another level. “But this is all about normalising driving at a young age, reinforcing its importance as a key life skill, and – most importantly – reducing accident rates in the first months and years after a young person has passed their test.” While Young Driver has already trialled the Bentley at its events, which take place at 70 locations around the UK, the Porsche and Mercedes are new additions. The Porsche 911 is a Carrera 4 model, its 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine producing 320bhp and driving all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Arguably, the world’s most recognisable sports car, the 911’s low-set driving position, slick gearshift and responsive throttle will add up to a thrilling drive for any youngster. As will Mercedes’ SL. No ordinary model, Young Driver Exclusive’s car is an SL 500, powered by a 429bhp V8 engine operating through a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It offers a real slice of sporting luxury, with the added benefit of roof-down motoring (if the weather allows!) thanks to the SL’s retractable ‘vario-roof’. Nothing says ‘luxury’ like a Bentley, though, and Young Driver Exclusive Collection’s Continental Flying Spur gives kids a real flavour of the ultimate in motoring opulence. Fitted with a mighty 552bhp, 12-cylinder engine, the Spur sends its power to all four wheels though a six-speed automatic gearbox. Despite its size, the Bentley’s speed-sensitive steering and parking sensors also make it deceptively easy to drive. Young Driver Exclusive Collection joins the company’s other special programmes, including Drive a Classic Car and Fire Engine Driving, also available at selected sites around the UK. However, Young Driver’s fleet of 170 Vauxhall Corsas is where all 10-17 year-olds start their driver training, sitting behind the wheel with an instructor for either 30 minutes or one hour. Here, they learn to navigate around specially-designed courses, with their growing experience recorded after every session in a free Drive Diary. Young Driver caters for under-10s, too. Its fleet of British-built, exclusively-designed Firefly Sport electric cars gives children from the age of four the chance to get behind the wheel for the first time and pave their way to driving the Corsas – and even the Exclusive Collection cars – when they’re old enough. The Young Driver Exclusive Collection is available at selected locations and costs £69.99 for a limited period (normal cost: £74.99). Audi Sport GmbH’s most powerful SUVs: The new RS Q8 SUV performance and the updated RS Q8 SUV

With 640PS and 850Nm of torque, the new RS Q8 SUV performance takes the top position among models from Audi Sport GmbH An expressive exterior and new, lighter wheels significantly sharpen the appearance of Audi’s most powerful SUV yet again High-calibre suspension components blend dynamics and comfort and guarantee outstanding suitability for everyday use Audi Sport Managing Director Rolf Michl: “With the new RS Q8 SUV and RS Q8 SUV performance, Audi Sport GmbH combines a passion for performance with prestige and suitability for everyday use to create an exhilarating experience.” For additional information please visit https://press.audi.co.uk/en-gb/ Ingolstadt, June 25, 2024 – Audi is rounding out the Audi Q8 SUV model range, not only with the new RS Q8 SUV with an output of 600PS but also by adding a new, second version to the top model in the series: the RS Q8 SUV performance. Its increased output of 640PS makes the SUV the most powerful series-produced combustion model in the history of Audi Sport GmbH. Both vehicles boast outstanding driving dynamics thanks to an optimized, self-locking centre differential while guaranteeing an equally impressive suitability for everyday use. The exterior of the RS Q8 SUV and RS Q8 SUV performance take their cues from the recently upgraded Q8 SUV. Full UK pricing and specification will be announced in July, ahead of first customer deliveries in September. Unmistakably an Audi Sport GmbH model: The exteriorWith the new Audi RS Q8 SUV and RS Q8 SUV performance, Audi Sport GmbH is intensifying its focus on the dynamics of the two high-performance SUVs. A new front apron with striking air intakes, a distinctive honeycomb structure, and a blade in high-gloss black (the RS Q8 SUV performance features matte grey) clearly identify the RS Q8 SUV and the performance version as the top models in the series. The large singleframe features a reinterpreted honeycomb structure where each individual honeycomb cell is now three-dimensional. The rear section also plays a part in advancing the models’ position at the top of the range. The two oval tailpipes are the first distinguishing feature of an RS model. Audi Sport GmbH has placed a diffuser between them, which is divided down the middle by a reflector. Ready for anything: Eight-cylinder engine in two output levels The new RS Q8 SUV is guaranteed to impress with an output of 600PS and 800Nm of torque, which is available between 2,200 and 4,500rpm. The output of the twin-turbocharged, eight-cylinder engine makes for outstanding driving dynamics. The RS Q8 accelerates 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 155mph. Thanks to its increased output of 640PS and 850Nm of torque, the RS Q8 SUV performance accelerates from 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds and can hit a top speed of 174mph. It is the most powerful series-produced combustion engine in Audi Sport GmbH’s history. By reducing back pressure, the newly developed, lighter RS sport exhaust system increases the output of the RS Q8 SUV performance while creating a sportier, more evocative sound. “Both the new RS Q8 SUV performance and the RS Q8 SUV embody sportiness and elegance. The top model of the Q8 series combines a passion for performance, prestige, and suitability for everyday use to create an exhilarating experience,” says Rolf Michl, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. Driving dynamics for maximum driving fun: Self-locking centre differentialBoth versions of the new RS Q8 SUV come as standard with permanent quattro all-wheel drive, which Audi Sport GmbH combines with an eight-speed tiptronic with faster shifting times as standard. The wholly mechanical centre differential, with its compact and lightweight design, distributes engine power to the front and rear axles at a ratio of 40:60. If slippage occurs, no more than 70 percent of the drive torque is applied to the front and up to 85 percent to the rear axle. This mode of operation results in more precise cornering, less understeer, and more exact turn-in. Agility and stability in every situation: suspension setupFor an ideal balance of sportiness and comfort, the RS Q8 SUV and RS Q8 SUV performance come as standard with adaptive air suspension sport with controlled damping, which has been tuned specifically for the RS. The ride height of both versions varies by up to 90mm. Both models offer electromechanical active roll stabilization (eAWS) as standard, which significantly minimizes lateral movements of the body. Both axles are connected by a compact electric motor between the two halves of the stabilizer. When the RS Q8 SUV is driving straight, the two halves are disconnected, which reduces body movements on uneven roads. When the car corners, the electric motors turn the stabilizers in the opposite direction of each other, which noticeably reduces lateral tilt. A 48V lithium-ion battery supplies the eAWS with power. The compact, lightweight energy storage unit, which can absorb and release high currents in a very short time, supplies the two electric motors with a maximum power of 1.5 kW each. The standard all-wheel steering with high-torque electric spindle drive contributes to agility and stability. When changing lanes quickly, the rear wheels turn up to 1.5 degrees in the opposite direction of the front wheels. At lower speeds, they turn up to five degrees in the opposite direction of the front wheels. This reduces the turning radius accordingly The top model in the series also features new lighting technologyHD Matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light, which act as an extra-high beam with a significantly greater range, are standard. A darkened bezel distinguishes the top model visually from the base model. Any of the five digital daytime running light signatures adds a striking look. Customers can select the signatures via the MMI, one of which is a checkered flag design exclusively available to the RS Q8 SUV. On select specifications, the RS Q8 SUV uses largely digitalized OLED rear lights featuring five digital light signatures. In conjunction with the assistance systems, they have a proximity indication feature for greater road safety. High-performance in all…
