Sunshine – finally – puts convertibles into Top 10 fastest sellers

Mercedes-Benz GLC revealed as the UK’s current fastest-selling used car taking just 11 days to leave retailers’ forecourts But convertibles enter Top 10 fastest sellers as sunseekers seek open-top driving on better weather Cars selling the fastest in Scotland but lingering the longest in London 27th June 2024 – Drivers have finally rediscovered an appetite for soft tops following the belated arrival of the British summer, according to the latest data from Auto Trader. Figures from the UK’s largest automative platform showed Mercedes-Benz’ C-Class convertible (petrol, 3-5-years) and the sporty Mazda MX-5 RF (petrol, 3-5-years) both selling in around 16 days on average – marking the first appearance for convertibles among the fastest sellers in 2024 following the wettest Spring since 1986. Even so, consumer demand for convertibles is still down 5.6% year on year compared to June 2023, which was the hottest June on record. By contrast, temperatures this year in “flaming” June were chilled by an Arctic jet stream in the first half of the month. Convertibles also have some way to go before knocking SUVs off the top of the list, where demand has shot up 27% on last year. The Mercedes-Benz GLC (diesel, aged 1-3 years) is currently the fastest-selling used car, taking an average of just 11 days to leave UK forecourts, three times faster than the current national average of 29 days. On average, SUVs are taking around 27 days to sell. More broadly and underpinning the very high levels of consumer demand in the market, used cars are currently selling three days faster than in June last year. In fact, based on the activity of the circa 85 million visits to Auto Trader last month, demand for used cars is up circa 13% year-on-year. Highlighting the nuance of the retail market, volume models are currently taking around 28 days to sell, versus 30 for premium marques. What’s more, middle-aged used cars are currently the quickest age cohort to sell, with 3–5-year-old cars leaving forecourts in just 26 days, whilst 5- 10-year-old cars are taking 27. Those under a year old, are lingering on forecourts the longest, taking 35 days. This is no doubt due to the significant discounts retailers and brands are currently applying to brand new cars, particularly for the growing array of electric vehicles. Since June last year, average discounts applied to brand-new cars have risen from 6.4% to 8.8%, with almost eight in 10 new cars now offering some level of discount. On a regional level, retailers in Scotland are seeing the fastest average speed of sale of all the UK regions, with used cars north of the border taking a mere 24 days to sell. It’s five days faster than the current national average and eight days faster than London, which has the slowest speed of sale of all UK regions, with used cars taking a comparatively lengthy 32 days to shift. Commenting, Richard Walker, Auto Trader’s Data & Insights director, said: “The speed at which used cars sell is an accurate barometer of the strength of the used car market and our data suggests it remains in very robust health as we enter the summer months. With such nuance in the market, the analysis also serves as a good reminder of the importance of looking at data on a granular level. A high-level view would suggest convertibles are under performing, but a quick look under the bonnet reveals there’s plenty of models bucking the overall trend with the final arrival of summer.” Fastest-selling used cars between 27th May – 24th June Rank Make Model Body Type Fuel Type Age Cohort (years) Avg. days to sell 1 Mercedes-Benz GLC Class SUV Diesel 1 to 3 Years 11 2 CUPRA Formentor SUV Petrol 3 to 5 Years 12 3 Vauxhall Grandland SUV Petrol up to 1 Year 13 4 Mercedes-Benz GLB Class SUV Petrol 1 to 3 Years 13 5 SEAT Leon Hatchback Petrol Plug-in Hybrid 3 to 5 Years 13.5 6 Volvo XC40 SUV Petrol Plug-in Hybrid 3 to 5 Years 14.5 7 Kia Sportage SUV Diesel Hybrid 1 to 3 Years 15 8 Peugeot 508 Hatchback Petrol 3 to 5 Years 15 9 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Convertible Petrol 3 to 5 Years 15.5 10 Mazda MX-5 RF Convertible Petrol 3 to 5 Years 16 Slowest-selling used cars between 27th May – 24th June Rank Make Model Body Type Fuel Band Age Cohort (years) Average days to sell 1 Porsche Taycan Estate Electric up to 1 Year 111 2 Mazda Mazda2 Hatchback Petrol Hybrid up to 1 Year 106 3 Kia XCeed SUV Petrol Plug-in Hybrid 1 to 3 Years 106 4 Audi A5 Coupe Petrol up to 1 Year 98 5 Volvo C40 SUV Electric 1 to 3 Years 93.5 6 Lexus UX SUV Electric 1 to 3 Years 91 7 Porsche 911 Convertible Petrol 1 to 3 Years 90 8 Audi Q4 e-tron SUV Electric up to 1 Year 86 9 Volkswagen Passat Saloon Petrol 3 to 5 Years 84 10 Porsche Taycan Saloon Electric up to 1 Year 82

Isuzu UK dealer fuels the thrill of 2024 World Sleddog Dryland World Championship

FJ Chalke & Vale Motors Isuzu sponsors local customer in the World Sleddog Dryland World Championship 2024. Esteemed customer, John Binding, showcased three of his five Alaskan Malamutes’ enthusiasm and synergy in a dry run training session. The Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 accompanied the powerful sled dogs, representing a shared commitment to conquering extremes. FJ Chalke & Vale Motors Isuzu proudly announces its sponsorship of local resident and esteemed customer John Binding, member of The Alaskan Malamute Working Association (AMWA), as he competes in the World Sleddog Dryland World Championship in November 2024. The Alaskan Malamute Working Association, host of the WSA Dryland World Championship 2024, anticipates participants from over 20 countries, bringing together hundreds of sled dogs for an unparalleled display of canine athleticism and teamwork. In early June, Ross Fowler, Business Manager at FJ Chalke & Vale Motors Isuzu, and Jordan, Sales Specialist, joined John for a dry run training session at Henstridge Airfield in Somerset. Accompanied by the impressive Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35, the team witnessed the power and intelligence of the sled dogs firsthand. Ross Fowler commented: “The dogs were incredibly intelligent and powerful. Their size can be quite intimidating, but they are beautiful creatures with nothing to fear. It was truly a fun and eye-opening experience.” John Binding, a longtime member of the AMWA and owner of five Alaskan Malamutes, explained how the dry sled run works: “We use a three-wheeled cart called a rig, which the team of harnessed dogs is connected to via a gang line and pulls from the front. The only control over them is through voice commands. For one-dog teams, purpose-built scooters and mountain bikes can also be used, which the dogs pull from the front.” Binding highlighted the dogs’ enthusiasm for their work: “The dogs genuinely enjoy working in harness. They get very excited and can be noisy, eager to go. Stopping them can be fun. It’s all about knowing your dogs and their capabilities. You work as a team, competitor, and dog alike.” The Isuzu Arctic Trucks AT35 builds upon the formidable D-Max V-Cross, sporting 35-inch tyres and elevated Bilstein suspension. With a pedigree of extreme capability, the AT35 does not compromise on comfort and luxury features including dual zone climate control, premium leather upholstery, 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and a 9-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Together, both the Malamute and the AT35 symbolise unmatched strength and resilience, representing a commitment to conquering extremes, be it through the raw power of nature or the refined capability of human engineering. The new Transporter: Robust and beautiful

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles reveals the first specific details of its new Transporter, which is characterised by high-quality, aesthetic design elements First look at the new PanAmericana: Iconic and exclusive model will launch with 19-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain trim The PanAmericana’s new standard Indianapolis wheel is the first 19-inch alloy wheel in the history of the Transporter series Standard LED headlights create a focused, state-of-the-art light design for all new Transporters from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Milton Keynes, UK (27 June, 2024) – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is presenting the first specific details of its seventh-generation Transporter1 – while also revealing a glimpse of a particularly charismatic and versatile version: the PanAmericana1. “Right from the outset and across the generations, the Transporter has been a robust and practical vehicle. And it achieves this in its most beautiful form. That’s why it has become an icon. Now, with our seventh Transporter, we have managed to create another vehicle that meets precisely these criteria – a robust vehicle with a highly aesthetic design. It seamlessly follows the classic Bulli DNA, but we have systematically enhanced the design – as is perfectly demonstrated by the new PanAmericana,” says Albert Kirzinger, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Chief Designer. Kirzinger adds: “Even the very first PanAmericana, which was based on the T5, gave you the impression that nothing could come close to it. This charm and sense of cool is also reflected in every detail of the new PanAmericana.” Stylish utility: “The new Transporter combines a high degree of utility with the distinctively clean and iconic style of Volkswagen Design. It is not just the vehicle’s overall lines, but also its individual elements that have become hallmark features of the product line,” says Albert Kirzinger. These include wheel rims, headlights and tail light clusters. The Chief Designer adds: “Even supposedly small details such as side sill panel moulding or wheel arch extensions are elements where this combination of robustness and aesthetics fuse together to give the Transporter its unique DNA.” The new PanAmericana demonstrates this perfectly with its all-terrain attachments on the sides: They are useful because they protect the body. They are aesthetically pleasing because their design is clean and precise. And they are a visible evolution of the PanAmericana design, as they add further emphasis to the allroad character and robustness of this Bulli built for globetrotters. Albert Kirzinger says: “Robustness – integrated into a crystal-clear design – signifies value to us and is a quintessential feature of the seventh Transporter generation.” Iconic design: Another example of the striking Transporter and Volkswagen details is the new 19-inch “Indianapolis” alloy wheel.2 The PanAmericana will be launched with this first 19-inch wheel2 as standard, the first in the history of the series. It features a premium design with a diamond-cut rim and black spoked star. According to Kirzinger, “Even if you covered up the VW badge on the hub cap, the Indianapolis wheel would still be recognisable as a Transporter and Volkswagen wheel thanks to its clean, iconic design.” Face in the crowd: “The headlights and tail light clusters have long been more than just sources of light. Even the first Transporter had round headlights that made it look like the commercial vehicle had eyes, giving the front end a face. The new Transporter also has an unmistakable face – and this is once again thanks to its striking light design,” Albert Kirzinger explains. The PanAmericana will be launched as standard with the top-of-the-line version of the new LED headlights.2 However, the entry-level versions will also have LED headlights2 on board. The PanAmericana’s new LED tail light clusters2 likewise leave you in no doubt that this is a Transporter. The new light design has a further significance: It symbolises that Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has shifted the Transporter into the future of technology. After all, it is not just the lights that are electric; the drive system in Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ new Transporter can also be electrified on request. (ends) Notes to Editors1Near-production concept vehicle2All prices and standard equipment apply to the model range offered in Germany. Equipment not yet confirmed for UK. The combination of a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor, plus power transfer courtesy of an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive, enables acceleration of 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds. The imposing power delivery and emotionally engaging performance experience served up by the new BMW M5 are accompanied by a new interpretation of the high-performance car design for which M is renowned. Prominent wheel arch and side skirt extensions, the sculptural front apron and model-specific surfacing around the C-pillar – including an embossed “M5” logo for the Hofmeister kink – give the car an athletic appearance that helps to differentiate it more clearly than ever from the BMW 5 Series Saloon. At the same time, an unusually high proportion of surfaces painted in body colour create a sleek appearance with stylish references to its superior dynamic abilities. The exterior design – like the ambience of the luxurious interior, which is enhanced with M-specific features – accentuates the multi-layered character of the new BMW M5. Its sense of poise and assurance is fuelled by vast reserves of power that can be summoned at any time. Kept discreetly in reserve during relaxed, electric-only cruises, this performance comes to the fore as the BMW M5 reveals the “sport saloon” side to its personality over longer distances – and is unleashed in full on the track. The M HYBRID system, power transmission and chassis technology are tuned to give the M5 specific performance characteristics, ensuring transverse and longitudinal dynamics unparalleled in this market segment. Together with its similarly outstanding elasticity, the new BMW M5 takes M performance to a new level. BMW Retailers across the UK are taking orders for the new BMW M5 from today, with the first appearance and world premiere of the vehicle taking place at Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024. Rolls-Royce supports local schoolchildren at Greenpower ‘Gathering of the Goblins’

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars continues its longstanding support for The March CE Primary School at the 2024 Greenpower ‘Gathering of Goblins’ Children in Years 5 and 6 designed and built four electric racing cars with support and guidance from Rolls-Royce Designers, Interns and Apprentices Every year, more than 10,000 school and university students take part in the Greenpower national competitions aimed at encouraging young people to pursue their interests in STEM subjects National final will be held at Goodwood Motor Circuit, close to the Home of Rolls-Royce, on 30 June 2024 “The Greenpower ‘Gathering of Goblins’ is a fantastic event that aims to fire young people’s imagination and bring STEM subjects to life through the excitement of motorsport. We’ve supported teams from The March CE Primary School over many years, with children working alongside our Designers and Apprentices to design and build some truly amazing racing cars. For us, this is both a link to our heritage – the marque first established its reputation as ‘the best car in the world’ through motor trials and racing – and a vital investment in the long-term future of engineering and manufacturing in the UK. We wish the teams every success.”Andrew Ball, Head of Corporate Relations and Heritage, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has continued its longstanding partnership with The March CE Primary School in preparation for this year’s Greenpower ‘Gathering of Goblins’, the UK’s premier event for electric-powered racing cars designed, built, and driven by schoolchildren. The competition is run by Greenpower Education Trust, a UK-based charity whose mission is to enthuse young people about science and engineering by challenging them to design, build and race an electric car. It supplies age-appropriate kit cars that can be built in schools, colleges, or group settings, and then raced in one of three categories at Greenpower events, culminating in an international final. In the UK, the competition attracts over 10,000 students, from primary school age through to university, in more than 700 teams. Similar Greenpower-licensed programmes also run in Europe and the USA. For several years, pupils from Years 5 and 6 at The March CE Primary School, which neighbours the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood, have taken part in the ‘Formula Goblin’ category for children aged 9-11. The marque originally funded one kit car for the after-school STEM Club, but this proved so overwhelmingly popular that it now supports a fleet of four. The chassis and powertrain are supplied by Greenpower and are standardised to ensure a level playing field. However, teams have complete freedom to determine the form and finish of the bodywork that sits on top. In a unique partnership, The March CE Primary School teams work with specialists from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars to develop their designs and bring them to life. As in previous years, the children created a range of bold, imaginative concepts for their cars around a specified theme, which in 2024 was ‘Elements’. They also learned more about the design process from Rolls-Royce designers, who translated their drawings into full digital renders, exactly as they would for a new model or client commission. With the four designs finalised, Apprentices and Interns from the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood attended the STEM Club to help the children build their cars, incorporating some of the actual materials used in Rolls-Royce motor cars. The Apprentices also assisted with driver training, test-driving and pit-stop practice in preparation for race day. The teams will be among those lining up for the race on 30 June, which takes place at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, less than a mile from the school and the Home of Rolls-Royce.
