Kenwood covers your back – new smaller DRV dashcams give rear view to drivers of convertibles, vans, pick-ups and motorhomes

Kenwood reveals new, smaller DRV dash camera range Improved picture quality with higher specification components Waterproof rear cameras allow external fitting, giving coverage to drivers with no rear window, soft tops and heavy tints Bluetooth to make smartphone pairing easier 60-second timer ensures video is not interrupted by stop/start systems Motion sensor records when car is approached for parking protection Compatible with EVs and hybrids Kenwood has launched a new range of sophisticated dashcams which offer improved quality footage from a camera which would comfortably fit in the palm of your hand. The new models will be building on the brand’s award-winning reputation which has seen its cameras offered as accessories at a string of official franchised car dealers. The new DRV range is available with resolutions from 1080P to full 4K, all with the ability to record sound in addition to video. All models are small enough to easily hide behind a rear-view mirror, being around the same size as a wireless earbud case at 58.5mm x 42.8mm x 24.4mm. Despite the dimensions, Kenwood has kept a full 2-inch colour TFT screen to allow easier navigation of the menus and allowing the user to instantly check the aim and operation of the cameras. Drivers can also connect their DRV to a smartphone using a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to pair with the dedicated Kenwood app. This makes it faster to link and allows live software updates to the camera. Special attention has been paid to the size of the cables and connectors to ensure the wiring can be kept neat and discreet, giving an original factory look to the installations. World first – waterproof rear cameraAdding a rear camera is an increasingly popular option, especially for professional drivers who need all-round protection. But for vehicles with no or limited rear vision, it is impossible to get an unimpeded view behind. This affects owners of everything from commercial vehicles and motorhomes to convertibles and mid-engined supercars. Even heavily tinted rear windows can result in suboptimal camera footage. The new Kenwood opens up the possibility of a rear camera for these drivers with an option to mount the waterproof rear camera on the outside of the vehicle. Three mounting choices are included, allowing the lens to be fixed to the numberplate trim, bumper recess or the more conventional location, inside the rear windscreen. Like the front camera, the rear lens is discreet, measuring about the same as a stock cube. It is IP67 rated for waterproofing and has a 5.5m long cable, allowing it to be used with large vehicles. Once mounted, it can record the view from the rear of the car in full 2560×1440 resolution. If using the optional hardwire kit, it will also allow drivers to use Enhanced Smart Parking Surveillance. This has three modes which can either film continually on a time lapse, or trigger recording when the unit detects vibrations or motion in front of the camera. It will automatically record 30 seconds of video until no more vibrations or motions are detected. This will give van drivers added peace of mind for their security knowing their back doors are covered by a motion detection camera system. The hardwire kit brings other advantages too. In addition to looking neater, it features a 60-second timer to ensure the video recording is not interrupted by modern stop/start systems. It will also sense if the car’s battery is getting low on charge and turn off automatically. It has already been approved by Volkswagen UK for use with their electric vehicle range. The new DRV range is priced from £119.99 and is available now from Kenwoodshop.co.uk and from many automotive brands’ main dealerships.

Used car market enters H2 with good momentum as industry benefits from consumer confidence boost

The average price of a used car was £16,410 in June; down -10% year-on-year, and -0.5% month-on-month in line with seasonal norms. Rising consumer confidence gives used car demand further boost, fuelling circa 8% uplift in June transactions. After recent improvement in supply levels, stock falls -4.2% year-on-year in June, the third consecutive month of declines. Tuesday 2nd July 2024, London – The used car market has entered H2 with strong momentum behind it, boosted by improving consumer confidence and favourable market conditions which are not only helping cars to sell quickly, but also increasing sales, and stabilising retail prices. According to the latest data from Auto Trader, the average price of a used car in June was £16,410, which on a month-on-month (MoM) and like-for-like basis, is a softening of just -0.5%, in line with seasonal trends. Since the start of the year, the used car market has recorded very robust levels of consumer demand, and at the half-way point shows no signs of slowing. In June, the level of demand on Auto Trader (as determined by the volume of advert views and search activity), rose 12.4% year-on-year, marking the highest rate of demand growth in 15 months[1]. The underlying demand in the used car market is further highlighted by the 80.8 million cross platform visits to Auto Trader last month, which is a 10% increase on June 2023, and a significant 21% rise on 2022. What’s more, Auto Trader data shows that used cars are currently selling in just 29 days, three days faster than the same period last year and five days faster than pre-pandemic 2019 (34 days). Crucially, this demand is translating into more than just interest from car buyers, with the platform’s retail sales data indicating used car transactions rose circa 8% on June 2023, rising from an already very robust 6% YoY uplift in May. Market boosted by confident economic outlook The retail market is benefitting from rising levels of consumer confidence, driven by optimism about the economy. Indeed, with the latest inflation figures falling to its lowest level in almost three years, the GFK Consumer Confidence Index improved for the third consecutive month in June. Auto Trader’s own consumer research found that 50% of in market car buyers were more confident in their ability to afford a new[2] car than they were last year. 89% were at least as confident as they were 12 months ago. The growing levels of consumer demand in the market is combined with a recent drop in supply. In fact, whilst supply of used cars entering the market began to improve towards the end of last year, over the last quarter available stock has slowed, and in June fell -4.2% year-on-year, the largest drop since May 23. Due to the impact of COVID, supply levels of cars aged below five years old are facing the biggest squeeze, with those aged 1-3-years and 3-5-years recording a drop of -20.6% YoY and -16.7% respectively. Conversely, with production now back to normal levels, supply of ‘nearly new’ cars (those aged below 12-months old) are up 42% YoY. It’s this imbalance in core market fundamentals – rising demand vs falling supply – which is helping to create a very robust used car market. Auto Trader’s Market Health metric, which assesses potential market profitability, rose to 15% in June; up from the 11% recorded in May, and the highest rate of growth since April 2023. For stock aged 3-5-years-old, it’s up 43% YoY, highlighting the considerable nuance in the used car market. Richard Walker, Auto Trader’s Data & Insights Director, commented: “As we enter the second half of the year, our data shows that the fundamentals of the used car market remain solid; consumer demand is robust, and cars are selling at pace, which combined with the softening in supply, means retail prices continue to stabalise. Although this balance of market dynamics is working to return retail prices to seasonal norms, it’s also affecting retailers’ traditional stock profiles and making the job of finding profitable cars all the more challenging. It’s why using insights over instincts to power your forecourt strategy is more important than ever.” Top 10 used car price growth (all fuel types) | June 2024 vs June 2023 like-for-like Ranks Make Model May 24 Average Asking Price Price Change (YoY) Price Change(MoM) 1 Volkswagen Beetle £7,314 2.3% 1.7% 2 BMW M5 £41,705 1.0% 1.9% 3 Mercedes-Benz SL Class £25,931 0.5% 2.5% 4 Porsche 718 Cayman £63,189 -0.2% 1.4% 5 Volkswagen Touareg £29,525 -0.8% 2.2% 6 Volkswagen up! £8,077 -1.1% -0.5% 7 Ford Mustang £33,790 -1.1% 3.5% 8 Audi R8 £70,080 -1.2% 1.1% 9 BMW Z4 £17,405 -1.3% 2.6% 10 Hyundai i10 £7,854 -1.3% -0.2% Top 10 used car price contraction (all fuel types) | June 2024 vs June 2023 like-for-like Rank Make Model May 24 Average Asking Price Price Change(YoY) Price Change (MoM) 10 Vauxhall Corsa-e £14,967 -20.1% 0.9% 9 Renault Grand Scenic £5,869 -20.3% -5.8% 8 DS AUTOMOBILES DS 3 CROSSBACK £13,980 -20.6% 1.9% 7 Vauxhall Mokka-e £17,955 -21.8% 1.9% 6 Citroen Grand C4 Picasso £6,858 -22.6% -1.1% 5 Tesla Model 3 £23,617 -22.9% 5.2% 4 DS AUTOMOBILES DS 3 £7,069 -22.9% -1.8% 3 Nissan Pulsar £6,646 -23.0% -4.9% 2 Citroen e-C4 £17,437 -24.3% 1.9% 1 Audi e-tron £26,370 -24.7% 0.6% -ENDS- About the Retail Price Index The Auto Trader Retail Price Index (RPI) is published monthly and provides an overview of the latest price and search data from our marketplace. The Hispano Suiza Sagrera incorporates the brand’s second generation of batteries, with an increased capacity of 103 kWh. The new battery is improved in all its key aspects, with the latest generation of lithium-ion cells battery packs: the new Sagrera features 15 modules of 24 cells, 360 in total. The whole battery weighs just 612 kg and can operate at a maximum voltage of over 750VDC. The battery capacity has been increased from 80 kWh to 103 kWh, enhancing energy density by allowing more energy to be stored within the same volume. This upgrade extends the driving range by approximately 100 km, bringing the total range to 480 km according to the WLTP cycle. In addition to the new cells, the Carmen Sagrera features an improved cooling system that is lighter, less complex, and made from more sustainable materials. Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera: a declaration of intent The evolution of the Sagrera’s front-end design boldly embraces its sporty character, with a pointed grille shape paying homage to the luxurious Hispano Suiza Alfonso XIII sports cars of the early 20th century. Redesigned front bonnet vents not only enhance aesthetics but also improve functionality, now flowing seamlessly with the rear ones. New side sills gracefully rise along the car’s profile, complementing the rear panel’s design. The rear-end underwent significant design and aerodynamic changes, highlighted by the addition of a large spoiler resembling stork wings, a tribute to the brand’s logo. This spoiler is divided into two parts, optimising the aerodynamic shape of the wing. The solid-painted side panels blend subtly with the rest of the wing, in exposed carbon. This divided spoiler optimizes aerodynamics, seamlessly blending solid-painted side panels with carbon fibre, while the diffuser, integrated with copper accents in Boulogne style, enhances both aerodynamics and design, adding elegance and tradition. These aerodynamic enhancements significantly increase downforce and grip, improving cornering and lateral acceleration capabilities. Inside, the sporty ambiance continues, with a redesigned centre console and infotainment system, upholstered in alcantara with black and red leather details, emphasising exclusivity and quality. The multimedia system offers comprehensive connectivity options, with customisable welcome messages for individual users. Performance and technology to match the designThe Sagrera features four 205 kW (around 275 hp) motors, delivering a combined power output of 1,114 hp and 1,160 Nm of torque, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 2.6 seconds. The motors are axial-flux permanent magnet and connected in series: two on the left rear wheel and two on the right. The transmission transfers power to the rear axle and features a virtual self-locking differential, ensuring optimal track performance and efficient torque transfer to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres. Developed in collaboration with Michelin’s technical centre, these tyres boast a unique design inspired by the storks and mosaics of legendary Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí, further enhancing the vehicle’s exclusivity. The Sagrera’s suspension system, designed based on extensive dynamic simulations, delivers racing-level performance. Both axles feature a deformable parallelogram suspension with adjustable shock absorbers for compression and extension settings, along with coil springs adjustable in hardness and height. This setup is complemented by an anti-roll bar linking both sides. Hispano…

Ampere leads a groundbreaking battery strategy for Renault Group with LFP technology and Cell-to-Pack solutions

A STRATEGIC PLAN DRIVING MAJOR TRANSFORMATIONS IN RECORD TIME. PROOF OF AMPERE’S COMMITMENT TO AGGRESSIVELY REDUCE VEHICLE COSTS AND DEMOCRATIZE ELECTRIC MOBILITY IN EUROPE. Ampere integrates LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) technology to complement NCM batteries (Nickel Cobalt Manganese) and creates a European value chain, ensuring efficiency and price competitiveness. With its partner LG Energy Solution, Ampere launches Cell-to-Pack technology (CTP), a world premiere for pouch-type batteries. With a complete range of batteries for vehicles developed by Ampere, customers get the best autonomy at the best price, depending on their usage. With these technologies, Ampere will reduce by around 20% the cost of batteries in its vehicles from beginning of 2026. This plan is in line with Ampere roadmap to reduce costs and improve margins. It confirms its ability to lead major transformations in record time. Boulogne-Billancourt, July 1st, 2024 – Ampere, the European intelligent EV pure player, today announced an ambitious battery plan integrating LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) technology alongside the NCM (Nickel Cobalt Manganese) batteries currently used by Renault Group. This decision is an effective and cutting-edge response to market volatility and change in technologies. Ampere works hand in hand with its suppliers LG Energy Solution and CATL to set up an integrated value chain on the European continent, to ensure the best competitiveness of LFP technology for its vehicles manufactured in Europe. These two partners will provide Ampere with LFP batteries that will equip several models of Renault and Alpine brands and will cover battery needs for this technology until 2030. Ampere’s teams also lead with LG Energy Solution the development of Cell-to-Pack technology. This cutting-edge innovation is a world’s first for pouch-type batteries. It improves the range of vehicles by integrating more cells, and therefore more on-board energy, in a given space. Cell-to-pack[1] technology also helps reduce battery costs. The integration of LFP and Cell-to-Pack technologies will enable Ampere to reduce by around 20% the cost of batteries in its vehicles from beginning of 2026. With four leading battery partners, Ampere is accelerating in a fast-changing environment, and demonstrates the efficiency of its horizontal approach, teaming up with the best in their field: AESC Envision located within Ampere ElectriCity hub, in Douai (France), for NCM batteries. CATL for LFP technology, from their plant in Hungary LGES for both NCM and LFP batteries, built in their plant in Poland. Verkor for NCM technology, from its gigafactory based in Dunkerque (France) Batteries are assembled at Ampere ElectriCity (France), in the Assembly Battery Shop of Douai Manufacture. Thanks to progress made in LFP technology over the past few years and the development of the value chain in Europe, LFP technology is now a real alternative to NCM. Less energy-intensive than NCM, it is perfectly suited to certain applications, such as small and midsize cars. Less expensive, it is an important part of the economic equation for affordable electric vehicles and their democratization in Europe. This technology will be installed in vehicles in record time: first models will be equipped with LFP Technology from early 2026. “In a fast-changing and competitive environment, our battery strategy is proof of the efficiency of Ampere’s open and horizontal approach with best-in-class partners, ensuring smart capital allocation, flexibility and rapid execution. This plan is in line with Ampere roadmap to reduce costs by 40% before the next generation of vehicles”, said Josep Maria Recasens, Chief Operating Officer of Ampere. “The work we’ve done with LG Energy Solution has enabled us to localize the entire value chain around LFP technology in Europe, and significantly increase its competitiveness, including with ‘Cell-to-Pack’. Innovation in batteries is ongoing, and we are working far upstream – in particular with our Innovation Battery Cell Laboratory to open in Lardy in 2025- to engage our partners early on with us, on the major transformations to come”, said Philippe Brunet, SVP Powertrain and EV engineering, Ampere About AmpereAmpere is the first European intelligent EV pure player. Born from Renault Group, Ampere designs, develops, manufactures and markets full electric vehicles featuring cutting-edge software technology, accessible to all. The customer experience, as well as social and environmental impact, are embedded throughout the vehicle development process to ensure they align with the brand’s commitment to its customers, the planet and those living on it. Rolls-Royce celebrates fourth consecutive year providing mentors for young people

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars celebrates its fourth consecutive year working with Dare to Dream Organised by Love Local Jobs Foundation, a charity working with schools and leading employers in West Sussex 15 Members of the Rolls-Royce team mentor Year 9 pupils from three nearby schools Rolls-Royce apprentices invited to take part for the first time The scheme helps build pupils’ confidence, overcome personal and academic challenges and shape their life’s journey with support from people already in work at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Participants invited to the Home of Rolls-Royce to experience the workplace, join apprentices in a variety of workshops and gain inspiration from the opportunities available “This is now the fourth year we have been working with Dare to Dream and everyone involved has found the journey very rewarding, from the young people taking part to our own team members acting as mentors. It was satisfying to see our apprentices take part this year. The talented apprentices that have successfully made it onto our prestigious programme have a great deal of experience to offer young people seeking guidance. The ability for pupils to share their concerns, experiences and aspirations with those already in work is a huge confidence booster as they approach their GCSE choices.”Mark Adams, Director of Human Resources, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has recently celebrated its fourth consecutive year of participation in Dare to Dream, a mentoring scheme designed to help pupils realise their potential and overcome their personal barriers to success. During the current school year, 15 volunteers from across the company have acted as mentors to Year 9 pupils from Chichester Free School, Bourne Community College and Ormiston Six Villages Academy, all local to the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood. Each mentor collaborates with three pupils who are grappling with challenges impacting their personal lives, academic advancement and future career decisions. Across a series of three sessions, the mentors share their own experiences and strive to learn more about the pupils’ perspectives on life. Together, they explore and challenge the pupils’ beliefs about themselves and the world around them. For the first time, Rolls-Royce apprentices participated in the mentorship programme, sharing their knowledge and experiences with the young people involved. This insight proved to be particularly beneficial, with the apprentices close in age and relatable to the school pupils taking part. The shared experiences and perspectives of the Rolls-Royce apprentices allowed them to connect with the mentees, fostering meaningful conversations and providing guidance that resonated strongly with the young participants. By encouraging pupils to think beyond the confines of their school and home environments, the mentorship programme can inspire aspirational ideas and motivate them to grapple with what lies ahead. Through sharing their own personal journeys, which have not always adhered to traditional educational and career paths, the mentors demonstrate that doors are not permanently closed. Samantha Savage, Year 9 Leader, Bourne Community College, says: “We are so very grateful to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars for the amazing opportunity for our students; to work closely with the ‘Dare to Dream’ team, the time our students spent at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood and the mentorship support visits to our school. The whole programme has been exceptional. The opportunity to work closely with professionals at Rolls-Royce has demonstrated excellence at the workplace in an unfamiliar environment. The difference in students’ attitudes to the world of work has been noticeable. The students returned buzzing with excitement, inspired by potential career pathways. This is wholly down to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this project. Students’ hopes and aspirations for the future have already risen and we are looking forward to watching them grow even more.” Maddison Headland, an apprentice at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said, “I chose to become a Dare to Dream mentor as I think it is important for young people to understand what they are capable of achieving. The programme allows them to see that despite any setbacks they are facing in their educational or personal life, they can push through and come out the other side.” Lydia Woodroff, HR Sustainability Business Partner, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, coordinates the project at Rolls-Royce. She says, “We were thrilled to maintain our support of the Dare to Dream programme this year and witness the continued positive impact it has had on the selected participants throughout the programme. The mentees had the chance to meet some of our Apprentices and observe how we foster people’s early career development. They also watched the vehicle manufacturing process and experienced a ‘customer reveal’ event, culminating in being photographed in a Rolls-Royce Phantom. We’re grateful for this opportunity to showcase the diverse range of skills utilised within our organisation, as well as the variety of roles we offer.”

Ferrari presents two new extended warranty programmes, Warranty Extension Hybrid and Power Hybrid

The new extended warranty services are dedicated to Ferrari’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models The Prancing Horse is the first to offer the scheduled replacement of the high-voltage battery (HVB) on reaching the 8th and 16th year of life The two new services further enhance Ferrari’s class-leading range of after-sales programmes Maranello, 1 July 2024 – Ferrari is introducing two new extended warranty services dedicated to owners of the SF90 Stradale, SF90 Spider, SF90 XX Stradale, SF90 XX Spider, 296 GTB and 296 GTS, as a first for the company’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars. The two programmes, named Warranty Extension Hybrid and Power Hybrid, aim to satisfy those who wish to preserve the performance and excellence of their hybrid Ferrari sports cars over time. The services can be purchased in packages renewable for two to four years and can be activated by any dealer in the official Ferrari network, regardless of the car’s year of production. Even cars that are now out of factory warranty, which covers the first four years of the car’s life in the UK (RoW 3 years), can activate the programmes after a technical inspection by Ferrari dealer personnel. Owners of a Prancing Horse PHEV already enjoy a five-year warranty on the hybrid components and if they choose the Warranty Extension Hybrid programme, not only will they avail themselves of a factory-backed, all-inclusive extended warranty that covers the entire car, but if they extend the warranty up to the eighth year, Ferrari will replace the high-voltage battery pack (HVB) at no extra cost. The new Power Hybrid allows clients instead to extend the factory warranty on all major powertrain components, including those related to the hybrid system, from year 8 to year 16, and again foresees the replacement, at no extra cost, of the high-voltage battery pack (HVB) in year 16. Both programmes guarantee clients that, in case of future developments in battery technology, the replacement HVB will be a new, state-of-the-art component that will ensure the same performance as the original one. As with Ferrari’s other extended warranty programmes, Warranty Extension Hybrid and Power Hybrid transfer to any eventual subsequent owner. The launch of these two unique services confirms the company’s commitment to offer its customers complete peace of mind, and further underlines its leadership in after-sales services.
