A family hotline lands at UK beach to support forgetful parents

For National Beach Day (30 August) Škoda is launching a one-off familying hotline designed to assist families facing beach day dilemmas The activity comes as new research from Škoda revealed that 44 per cent of parents said they have forgotten something on a family daytrip, and 35 per cent revealed their child consequentially had a meltdown Parents will spend on average two painstaking hours getting ready for a family daytrip only to forget crucial essentials like suncream (24%), water bottles (21%), and even towels (10%) Milton Keynes, 29 August 2024 – For National Beach Day (30 August), Škoda is launching a pop-up beach hotline to assist frazzled parents who have forgotten beach essentials on their family daytrip. The hotline comes after Škoda conducted a survey and found that nearly half (44 per cent) of parents have forgotten something on a family day trip with suncream, water bottles and wet wipes topping the list. A whopping 35 per cent of parents also reported that their child had a meltdown as a result of missing essentials. Mindful of the making life easier, Škoda will be on-call at Mersea Island Beach in Essex on 30 August to deliver any forgotten goods as per the parents’ requests. Families simply just need to pick up the Škoda green phone that will be temporarily placed at the beach, and request what they need, whether it’s sunglasses, snacks, suncream or beach towels. The brand is heading to Essex in its newly launched seven-seat Kodiaq SUV with a boot packed full with family essentials ready to solve a crisis. The research revealed that the Great British seaside is the nation’s favourite destination and that 30 per cent of families venture out for a daytrip at least once a week. Nine in 10 travels by car for a day out, covering an average of 88 miles. The survey of 1,000 mums and dads with children aged 14 and under also revealed that getting out the door is no easy feat, with 29 per cent of parents spending two whole hours or more trying leave the house for a daytrip! But despite planning with “military precision” they still manage to forget the essentials, with one in 10 frantic families admitting to forgetting the obvious beach towel, 12 per cent leaving behind a change of clothes for their kids, leaving parents feeling annoyed (37 per cent) and unorganised (26 per cent). Stressed parents revealed the biggest barriers to getting their little ones out of the house were packing lunches (32 per cent), getting them dressed (25 per cent) and a last-minute round of toilet trips (25 per cent). With 49 per cent of parents forking out extra cash for replacement items, and 16 per cent blaming their partner for the mishap, it’s clear that Škoda’s beach hotline is set to be a game-changer for family daytrips. The study, carried out via OnePoll, found that parents typically pack four entertainment devices and toys, including tablets (49 per cent) and soft toys (37 per cent). However, 23 per cent feel they never have any space in their car once it’s packed for a day trip and 44 per cent said the amount they take makes a day out feel like a mini holiday. Kirsten Stagg, Head of Marketing at Škoda UK, said: “As a parent myself, I understand the stress and panic of getting to your destination and realising you’ve left behind essentials. The Kodiaq has space for up to seven people and we’ve packed the boot full to help keep families smiling so they can just enjoy the day.” TOP 20 THINGS PARENTS FORGET ON DAYTRIPS Suncream Water bottles Wet wipes Sunglasses Hats Power bank Change of clothes for my child(ren) Towels e.g. for the beach/swimming Snacks Plasters/first aid kid Change of shoes Headphones Cutlery Change of clothes for myself Bucket and spade Toys / entertainment devices Cold drinks / ice box Beach chairs Napkins In-car sweets

All-electric Hyundai INSTER to appear at UK retailers in October and December First chance for British customers to see pioneering sub-compact A-segment SUV Huge interest in INSTER since it was first unveiled in Korea earlier this year Eagerly-awaited model is set to go on sale in the UK later this year Leatherhead, 29.08.24 – British customers will get their first chance to see Hyundai’s eagerly awaited new INSTER as it embarks on a national roadshow in October and December, taking on 86 Hyundai retailers during its journey. Pre-production versions of the A-segment sub-compact SUV, which was revealed in June, will be on display ahead of the order books opening later this year and the first deliveries in January. It’s the perfect opportunity to get up close to Hyundai’s newest electric vehicle with major parts of the United Kingdom covered, from Inverness to Taunton and Aberystwyth to Norwich. Your nearest participating retailer can be found here: http://hyundai-inster-roadshow.co.uk/pr Unveiled at the Busan International Mobility Show in Korea, the INSTER made a positive first impression courtesy of its robust exterior design, spacious interior and sophisticated technology in an urban-friendly SUV package. Building on the design legacy of the CASPER, a petrol-powered model available in Korea, the INSTER will be positioned between traditional A-segment sub-compact city cars and larger B-segment compact models, offering a blend of manoeuvrability and ease of use with strong practicality and flexibility. The characterful exterior design, with its small SUV profile, bold wheelarches, distinctive LED lighting and elevated ride height is complemented by a sleek cockpit that provides enhanced technology thanks to a 10.25” digital cluster and a 10.25” infotainment touchscreen, plus a wireless charging dock in the centre console. The INSTER offers great versatility, too, with all the seats able to be folded flat, to maximise capacity, while those in the second row slide and can be split 50/50, adding to the versatility. The performance promises to be cutting-edge, too, with both 42kWh and Long Range 49kWh batteries available, allied to an electric motor that delivers either 71.1kW (97PS) or 84.5kW (115PS). This allows the INSTER to deliver a segment-leading driving range of up to 220 miles* (WLTP) with 15” wheels on a single charge. And with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including Surround View Monitor, Blind-spot View Monitor and Intelligent Speed Assist, the INSTER promises a comfortable and safe driving experience, either in urban environments or out of town. Anyone keen to attend can register their interest in doing so by heading here: http://hyundai-inster-roadshow.co.uk/pr Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, said: “The INSTER will be the most compact member of the Hyundai electric vehicle family, and proves that good things really do come in small packages. Its exceptional capabilities and advanced equipment will challenge expectations of what a small EV can deliver, and we have been hugely encouraged by the interest it has generated in the UK since it was revealed. Customers recognise Hyundai’s pedigree in electrification, with the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 both winning World Car of the Year in recent years, and are keen to know more about the INSTER. This exciting British roadshow will allow them to see for themselves what a desirable and innovative vehicle the INSTER is.” For more information on all the cars in Hyundai UK’s award-winning range, visit www.hyundai.co.uk *Official technical data and range of this model are pending final homologation. Car production slowdown continues as factories gear up for new models

Export volumes down -16.3% but domestic demand holds up, declining by just 672 units. Production output value in first seven months of 2024 holds level, despite volume decline. Thursday 29 August, 2024 UK car production fell by -14.4% in July, according to new figures published today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Factory lines rolled out 65,478 vehicles in the month, with the decline in output due predominantly to model changeovers and temporary supply chain challenges. Despite a -18.6% decline in volume, electrified (battery electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid) vehicle manufacturing maintained a relatively stable 37.5% share of output, compared with 39.5% in July 2023. Production for the UK market fell slightly, by -5.1%, although in volume terms this represented just 672 fewer units. More than four in five (80.9%) cars produced in July were destined for customers overseas, with the five largest markets by volume encompassing the EU (51.3% of exports), US (17.6%), China (8.6%), Turkey (5.5%) and Japan (3.1%). Total export volumes for the month fell -16.3%. Year to date, domestic production remains up 14.8% while export volumes are down -14.3%. However total output was still calculated to be worth more than £20 billion at factory gate prices – unchanged on the same period last year, demonstrating the high value of UK automotive production.1 Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said, “Following significant growth last year, some readjustment in output was to be expected. Indeed, an ongoing degree of volatility is likely as the industry restructures to transition to zero emission vehicle production. As the billions already committed to new models start to deliver a return, volume growth will resume, providing we seize every opportunity to enhance our global competitiveness. We need investment in skills, healthy markets, cheaper green energy, and fair trade deals that help British-built vehicles reach international customers more easily, all of which should be wrapped in an over-arching industrial strategy that ensures automotive continues to be a key driver of economic growth.” Notes to editors1 Average 2024 factory gate price: £41,800; 2023: £38,200 (inflation adjusted) About SMMT and the UK automotive industryThe Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is one of the largest and most influential trade associations, representing the automotive industry in the UK. The automotive industry is a vital part of the UK economy, integral to growth, the delivery of net zero and the UK as a global trade hub. It contributes £93 billion turnover and £22 billion value added to the UK economy, and invests around £4 billion each year in R&D. With 198,000 people employed directly in manufacturing and some 813,000 across the wider automotive industry. Many of these automotive manufacturing jobs are outside London and the South-East, with wages that are around 13% higher than the UK average. The sector accounts for 12% of total UK exports of goods, with UK-produced vehicles traded globally, generating £115 billion of trade in total automotive imports and exports. The UK manufactures almost every type of vehicle, from cars, to vans, taxis, trucks, buses and coaches, as well as specialist and off-highway vehicles, supported by more than 2,500 component providers and some of the world’s most skilled engineers. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ CarFest stand, Buzz Stop curated by design duo, Craig & Karl

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ stand, the Buzz Stop, curated by celebrated artists Craig Redman and Karl Maier The stand features design cues from ID. Buzz, including the honeycomb grille ID. Buzz 7-seat made its UK debut at the UK’s biggest Family Fundraising Festival Milton Keynes, UK (28 August, 2024) – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ new brand stand, first seen at the 2024 CarFest festival, called Buzz Stop was designed by internationally renowned artists, Craig Redman and Karl Maier. The Volkswagen Buzz Stop creative takes cues from the ID. Buzz, the brand’s first all-electric vehicle, the retro-styling and layout of which was inspired by the classic Type 2 (T1) Microbus, an icon of the Volkswagen brand. It was the perfect place for the brand to give a UK debut to its highly-anticipated, family-friendly ID. Buzz 7-seat model. Curated by the distinguished design duo, Craig & Karl, the new Buzz Stop caught everyone’s attention with its bold design, bright colours and use of different mediums. Craig & Karl’s collaborative approach melds pop-art themes, bright colours and flat, geometric shapes to create bold work that is filled with simple messages executed in a thoughtful and often humorous way, from illustrations through to installations, such as Buzz Stop. Celebrated for their ability to communicate complex ideas through a deceptively simple visual language, the duo’s pieces are instantly recognisable and universally appealing. From young children to design-conscious adults, the stand-out stage captured the imaginations of all the family – fitting for a brand renowned for its family-friendly vehicles. Craig Redman and Karl Maier commented on their new Buzz Stop design: “We were excited to collaborate with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles to conceptualise and bring the Volkswagen Buzz Stop to life. Drawing inspiration from distinctive details on the ID. Buzz, we have created a vibrant, immersive environment where people can experience the car and get a sense of the adventurous, free-spirited lifestyle it represents. The Buzz Stop is a fun and inviting space designed to surprise and delight festivalgoers, offering a welcoming environment to relax and spend time throughout the day. “Volkswagen’s output is iconic and renowned for its exceptional design and unconventional thinking. We’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to collaborate, uniting a similar sense of precision and playfulness that characterises our work.” The spacious ID. Buzz 7-seat is the latest addition to the ID. Buzz line-up. The 7-seat provides a longer wheelbase for increased luggage capacity, a standard seven-seat layout and a larger 86kWh battery for even greater range. The ID. Buzz Life 7-seat starts at £59,545 ‘on the road’ and features a WLTP combined range of 291 miles. The ID. Buzz Style 7-seat is priced from £64,345 and has a WLTP combined range of 286 miles. Both 7-seat models feature the same 286PS single motor as the normal wheelbase versions.1 CarFest, the UK’s biggest family fundraising festival, took place 23-25 August 2024 at Laverstoke Park Farm, Hampshire. Five wins for Volkswagen in What Car? Electric Car Awards 2024

Golf named Best Hybrid Family Car Passat named Best Hybrid Estate Car Older Golf and Passat GTE models win used categories (now four years in a row for Passat) ID.3 retains best used title in Electric Family Car class Milton Keynes – Volkswagen has scooped an impressive five category wins in the 2024 What Car? Electric Car Awards. They include repeat victories for some of the brand’s most popular models, and underline Volkswagen’s credentials as a manufacturer of high-quality electric and hybrid cars for business and everyday motoring. The five awards for Volkswagen in this year’s awards are: Golf 1.5 TSI eHybrid – Best Hybrid Family Car Passat 1.5 TSI eHybrid – Best Hybrid Estate Car Golf GTE – Best Used Hybrid Family Car Passat GTE – Best Used Hybrid Estate Car, for the fourth year in a row ID.3 58 kWh – Best Used Electric Family Car, repeating its success last year The What Car? Electric Car of the Year Awards highlight the best electric and plug-in hybrid models available to buy in the UK. Winners are selected by expert judges who evaluate each vehicle based on factors such as driving range, performance, practicality, running costs and overall value for money. The Golf has become a perennial favourite with the car-buying public since it was launched 50 years ago. While its high-performance versions are famous for offering exhilarating driving, this award underlines how it is also a superb, affordable and practical choice for everyday use. The latest Golf Style eHybrid combines a 19.7 kWh (net) battery with a frugal, yet punchy, 1.5 TSI petrol engine – resulting in an all-electric range of up to 88 miles between charges (WLTP combined) and ultra-low CO2 emissions of just six grammes per kilometre. It now also allows DC charging at rapid public charge stations. The Passat is another car with a long and successful history, with more than 34 million being sold worldwide since the covers came off the first generation in 1973 – a total that surpasses that of even the legendary Beetle. The latest eHybrid versions have an all-electric range of up to 82 miles (WLTP combined) and CO2 emissions of between eight and 10 grammes per kilometre, depending on model. Like the Golf, the Passat eHybrid also allows DC charging at rapid public charge stations. The cavernous boot has 510 litres of storage space with the rear seats up, adding to an already super-practical and efficient package for business and domestic drivers alike. The Golf and Passat GTE models remain popular choices among used-car buyers alongside the ID.3 which, like the Passat, is celebrating repeat wins in the What Car? Electric Car of the Year Awards. The ID.3 won the same category in 2023, and this is the fourth year in a row that the Passat has picked up the What Car? award for Best Used Hybrid Estate Car. “Like all Golfs, the 1.5 TSI eHybrid is a practical choice that offers tidy handling and rides bumps and potholes well,” said Steve Huntingford, What Car? Editor. “But, crucially, it combines these qualities with an exceptionally long electric range; in our real-world tests, it covered 73 miles on pure electric power – almost double the distance of key rivals.” Commenting on the Passat 1.5 TSI eHybrid, Steve added: “The latest Passat gives you a higher quality interior and more space – for both people and luggage – than some far more expensive estates. What’s more, it is a hushed and comfortable long-distance cruiser, and its huge electric range helps make it a very appealing company car.” (ends) About the Volkswagen brand: A total of 162,087 new Volkswagen passenger vehicles were registered in the UK in 2023, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This equated to a market share of 8.52 per cent – an increase of 0.35 per cent compared with the previous year – and made Volkswagen the UK’s best-selling new-car brand for the third year running. The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has a global presence, producing vehicles at 29 locations in 12 countries, and employs approximately 170,000 people. In 2023, Volkswagen delivered around 4.87 million vehicles worldwide. These included bestsellers such as the Polo, T-Roc, T-Cross, Golf, Tiguan and Passat, as well as the successful all-electric ID. models. Volkswagen handed over about 394,000 all-electric vehicles to customers worldwide in 2023 and, with its ACCELERATE strategy, is consistently advancing its ambition to become the most desirable brand for sustainable mobility. Highly exclusive roadster on development testing in camouflage Unique bodyshell concept must prove itself on a wide variety of roads High-speed drives on special circuit also part of final development programme Affalterbach/Nardò. Mercedes-AMG is commencing the final phase in the development of the highly exclusive PureSpeed sports car, which celebrated its world premiere as a concept vehicle in Monaco in May 2024. Prototypes of the limited-run model are currently undergoing test drives. It starts on a variety of different roads in northern Italy before heading south to the high-speed test track in Nardò. The radical design, a completely open, two‑seater performance car with neither roof nor windscreen, is a homage to racing and must prove itself on this test programme over a total of more than 3,000 kilometres. During these drives, the development team is focusing on a broad spectrum of tasks – necessary for testing the high quality of the two‑seater under real‑life driving conditions. These ensure the functionality and interaction of all systems and components. Likewise, the spectacular body concept is being evaluated in wide-ranging situations for adherence to exacting quality standards. On top of that, experts are carrying out fine-tuning under extremely dynamic handling and at high speeds on the test track. Total vehicle testing on public roads is undertaken in cooperation with project partner Pininfarina, renowned experts in small‑volume specialist projects. One of the two-seater’s highlights is the HALO system, which replaces the conventional A‑pillar. This element is derived directly from the pinnacle of motorsport. It protects the occupants in the event of an accident. As in Formula 1TM, the aerodynamically optimised safety system in the Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed consists of a curved bar fixed to the vehicle body. Two helmets, which are also aerodynamically optimised, provide additional protection and were designed and produced exclusively for the Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed. The small production run is limited to 250 and reserved for just a few enthusiasts and collectors. Inspired by legendary racing cars, the combination of inimitable racing aesthetics and exceptionally dynamic performance makes the Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed a unique driving machine for connoisseurs. It is the first model in the new ultra-limited Mercedes‑Benz Mythos series.
